Poor service from Land Rover
« on: November 28, 2006, 22:58:51 »
Had all the mail shots filled them in with what I am looking for
Weeks later the local LR dealer calls me confirms my preference, says I will go and see what stock we have, over a week later still no reply, didnt seem too happy that I wanted a diesel,
So Land Rover should I just spend my wad on a shogun instead????They arnt usually rushed off there feet at christmas???

Never had a problem with Land Rover uk but the local dealer in Bradford is rubbish. Have filled in lots of things concerning the D3 then some other stuff and they were supposed to phone me to arrange a test drive but they never have. On the plus side I did get an invite to a half day land rover experience and when I spoke to the young man and said I fancied a go in the new Freelander 2 he said if I left it till December that could be arranged for me

I went into the Cheep dealer in Chesterfield and they got me on the course at Tong without trying to sell me anything.

"which car shoudl I say you test drove?" was as close as they got to hard sell.  If I had the cash I'd go back there.

I almost called in this afternoon for a look round on my way back from Ilkley (via Keighley Gate, Bingley & Shipley.

I knew someone off here worked there, but couldn't remember who

I once got the on your bike from the Mitsubishi dealer " people who live in your area dont buy Shoguns", that was a very expensive mistake for him.We choose to live in a terraced house in a cheaper area as its got good road, rail and airport links and the money we save by not having a big house allows us to have the luxurys hols cars etc.
I hate the attitude some people dont they know not to judge a book by its cover?

Misleading title though.  This isn't poor service from Land Rover.  It's poor service from a Land Rover dealer, which is an independent company who happens to buy and sell Land Rover products.  I'm sure Land Rover would love to have much more influence over their dealers than they can.

I agree, its not LandRover but their dealer. I have in the past as I am sure many of you have had poor service.

A few years ago at our local Audi Garage I went to see about buying a new Audi, I was bypassed to the man in the suit behind me so I went and bought a new Volvo, at our Landrover dealer a couple of years ago I was looking at a new Range Rover in the showroom making sure my daughter could get in etc and the only person who approached me was the receptionist who took my name. I bought the Jeep instead but would probably have bought the RR if they could have seen past my jeans, scruffy fleece and steel toecaps.

I take it you're all aware if the two ex bike racers and F1 drivers that went into the Merc dealers in Park Lane. Both in a nice happy mood after a good lunch.
Both in jeans and T shirts.
The salesman threw them out.
Both went to the Citroen dealer and bougyht a Maserati SM each.
The F1 driver turned up at the next F1 race to be greeted by the european sales guy from Merc whit
"Why the hell have you bought that " or such words.
The F! driver explained.

I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the salesman goyt told who hed turned away.

I can honestly say that if I walk into Rocar Moores in Huddersfield in my scruffs they dont even blink at me and they treat me as I presume they would anywhere else, have never had a single problem with them........ the one in Bradford though  We all went into the Mercedes Dealers in Swansea a while back and the sales men were all over us even though I said I was just looking and wanted to see what the Smart car was like cos I faniced one of their diesels......... the man said they dont sell them in this country but he was still very helpful with it all

I went to my local dealer last year dressed in jeans and test-drove a D3, Range Rover TD6 and V8.  The salesman was helpful and accommodating.  Realistically there was no obvious sign that I could have spend £43K on a car but he was prepared to take the chance.

As it happened I bought the 101 and drove round Africa instead...

Yeah, and realistically, that's very unlikely to happen.  It's not unheard of, but if you have somebody who has invested money in your brand, and they treat their customers like mud, you're probably not going to get shot of them as long as they're selling some cars here and there.

Working with a number of resellers and distributors in my previous IT life, some of them were lousy and had no idea, but we'd very rarely un-accredit them, because the other option was to spend a huge amount of time and resources training up some other company who were probably going to be just as bad.

I'm interested when I hear about dealers in South Africa, for example, who seem to have a very different (and more positive) approach to the franchise.  I think the difference is, they're in an underexploited market where there's probably more margin to be made, due to lack of competition.  Competition is not always good;  you only have to look at some of the telecomms and utilities providers to see this, where competition tends to drive down margins and hence customer service.

Copley Motors used to be the same over at (yes...) Copley

Quite a while ago, at the launch of the P38 (1994) a friend & myself went to Appleyards (as it was then) in Leeds to look.
We went in his 101FC.........
Expecting the 'bums rush' we got treated well & even had to explain it to interested customers & sales-staff
Afterwards we both got invites to test-drive the DSE.

At the top end of the spectrum, I once went into JCT600(??) on Gelderd Road looking at the Bentley Arnage (& a 'pre-owned' Continental T), and have been treated quite correctly.
I did have the slight 'trump card' that the guy I used to work for had bought from the franchise ; DB7, Virage & a F355

I didn't need to mention him though, as I was offered a look around, a sit in, but not a test-drive

Harrogate Horseless Carriage at Harrogate was always another one that treated browsers very well.
I was a frequent caller whenever I passed.
