can any one tell me if a 300 series disco rear bumper will fit the earlier 200 series

Yes straight forward bolt-on fitment but you'll need to extend the indicator and sidelight wiring from the body clusters if you want the lights to work.

If you do a fair bit of off road driving though, perhaps consider a heavy duty rear bumper (if funds allow) - all in one piece, probably about 5mm thick steel - no more dents at the slightest brush with the scenery and no end caps to get ripped off by vegetation!

Am I correct in assuming that the aftermarket bumpers are strong enough to support recovery points?  

I've sen that there are one or two makers with [expletive deleted] integrated rear bumpers, but only a few choices.  I would like to get my winkers OFF the bumper (though I have guards over them now).  Would I be able to fit the tail lights that have the winkers in them on my 95 Tdi Disco?  I only have turn signals in the bumper at present.  Would I need to rewire, and if so, would I need a whole new rear wiring loom, or could I just extent the bumper turn signal lines?

Most aftermarket 'heavy duty' replacement rear bumpers can offer recovery points and jacking points.

The sidelight and indicator cables run down past the body clusters anyway so you could pull the cables back from the bumper or identify and chop them out of the loom.
You can do it all with your existing loom - last one I did I chopped the lug's out of the plug so I could connect the cables through the plug onto the light and then the existing plug could fit back on over the top so the cable passes through.

LOL!  I don't remember what I wrote for the "(expletive deleted)" point, but it wasn't worthy of censorship!

Anyway, thanks for the positive feedback.  While a new rear bumper is somewhere around #38 for things I NEED to buy, I like to know what I may be in for when I do go for it.
