Of course, they will always give the worst predictions as they can't be seen to be giving a forecast that is okay when the weather is dangerous now can they?  :?

It's been blowing gales and raining here in Wales for nearly 2 weeks and it looks like it's going to do the same next week.
We had a 140 mph hurricane last week in Bowstreet outside Aberystwyth. 99 mph winds down on the Pendine over the weekend.
Had one hell of a thunderstorm from about 11 pm last night to about 10 am this morning with heavy rain and hail.
Normal weather for here

Well works both ways.

our forecast was was sunny spells and light winds.

Have had gales and torrential rain all day, now its been altered to be a severe weather warning :)
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

but according to the news they've had a "mini tornado" in london, so the fact the rest of the country has been relocated to france by severe gale force winds matters little, someone in london has lost a roof tile.

I saw headlines today of  heavy snow, blizzards, plagues of toads, fire and brimstone, riders of the apocalypse etc etc.
Bring it on, baby!
Then when all the 'Red Sock' brigade get stuck, we can have a damn good gloat!

You sure about the 140mph? Only the highest gust that the Met Office recorded over the weekend was 114mph at Clogwyn on Snowdon and 98mph at Mumbles, both are still hurricane force winds and are both quite strong enough!!  :D

Mind you, I see Aberdaron has seen gusts upto 72mph today and sustained winds of 52mph. So that converts into a Severe Gale Force 9 with the gusts just short of hurricane force (73mph) again.
The winds should decrease from now onwards and then we have a bit of a lull. But there is another really deep low pressure area just clearing Canada and heading to the South of Iceland that will give us more strong winds on Sunday & Monday as it's associated frontal systems move across Northwest Scotland (me! ) by the looks of it!!

I was quoting what was said on the radio at the time.

Towards the bottom of this article a tornado researcher thinks it was about a force 3 tornado

Yep, a mini tornado would explain the 140mph and why it was so localised.

Here's a link to the Fujita Scale for tornado damage.

Paint a large Union Jack flag on the roof, like a mate of mine did. It tends to stick out somewhat.
