Personally I have yet to find a shop bought mince pie thats worth what they charge 6 for a quid is 50p or more profit foled by 25p worth of packaging.... They might only cost a quid but you'll be lucky if you get 10p worth of mice pies and it shows in the quality.

A plateful of good mince pies that have been heated and crisp up in the oven, remove the lid and add a suitable quantity of brandy butter replace lid and Mmmmmm.

The fat man seal of approval for mince pies goes to sainsburys brandy rich. Loads of filling, good pastry and you can get drunk on the smell of 'em.

Lorry driver I knew said that he used to drive for a big bakery who sell through the supermarkets and in MARCH each year he would take mince pies from the bakery to deep freeze, then in November collect them from deep freeze and move them to warehouse for distribution to retail outlets.
Cheers, Nathan.

My dear Mum, bless her, used to make the 'mincemeat' months in advance. The secret ingredient was my Dad's stock of Pussers Navy Rum.
Come Christmas, eating a mincepie nearly took you head off! Luvly!
RIP Mum and Dad, I miss you both. :(

When I was a kid my dad used to make ours - it was the only time he was let loose in the kitchen.  As soon as the first lot came out of the oven, he knew it was time to start making the next lot.

To be honest, I prefer my own mince pies to shop-bought ones.  There's nothing like eating one that's so fresh you burn your tongue on it.
