HOW MUCH for a battery :shock:

Went into Halfrauds the other day to buy a battery for my rover 620 as it didnt like to start me car when temp was in minus figures. It is 7 years old so done a good job and was still brill in warm weather except for when the frost came it moaned about working. So bought one of those at £45.

Disco on other hand moand at about 5 degreesc and below. It really puts up a fight but so far I have one each battle to start the disco. In Halfrauds to get a battery and at £75 I declined that chance to buy one. There must be somewhere I can get a bog standard disco battery for a 300tdi for under 375 or is that about right? At the mo I have my old rover 620 battery indoors in the warm all charged upready to jump start the disco if the need arrises! Kind of relying on a friendly person to jump start me when I am out and about if it ever happens. Most of the time the engine is warm and warmed the battery up by the next time I need to start it. Just hope it doesnt snow just yet :lol:

I dont think Santa can carry a battery in his sleigh. Poor old rudolph may struggle!!!

I had this problem with mine. I checked the battery and it was OK. The problem actually was the glow plugs - only one of the 4 was working. May pay you to do a little checking first.

I havee just bought a battery from a local battery manufacturer for my P38,, after getting quotes from local electrical man £85 + vat,, LR £130  so very please for same battery for £48 + vat  :lol:

I've just got two new deep cycle/starter batteries from Tayna but they have 70Ah 550CCA bat's starting from £45.99 (second page for the Disco battery   ).

Changed all of them last year to vast expense. cost me £40 for 4 plugs from my local garage. Got money back after I printed out a quote from paddocks for a set of 4 for about £10.

Will look at the batteries you guys have posted about. What is a deep cycle battery? Why would I need 1 or not?

What is a deep cycle battery? Why would I need 1 or not?

Na,  the deep cycle is for my winch, lights etc that I run off the spare battery. A "cycle" is from full charge to near total discharge and Deep cycle means it can stand being run almost flat quite often without effecting the life of the battery. If you do that with normal one then they don't last very long.  
I only mentioned them cos that's what I got off Tayna and at a resonable price.

Partco were doing an 072 Unipart Samson for a 300TDi Discovery at £48 when I enquired this morning.  Halfords seemed very expensive at £85 for an 072 when I looked at lunchtime !

Depends on what you want and where you live!  

I went for the mail order route cos I couldn't get the type of battery I was after up here. Infact, that goes for most things, not just batteries!!  :D

was knocking out 750cca batteries for 90/110 diesels for £30 - but ran out of them a short while ago!

My local factors is about half the price of Halrfords, you're paying for the name and the 3 year warranty.

750 CCA batterys designed for diesels I was buying in at £25 for the cheapies and £30 for the heavy duty, selling at £50, never had any back.
From Dynamic batterys in Skelmersdale lancs.
Trade accounts, just buy enough stuff this will prove you are a trader.
Me and my mate once got thrown out of a tool wholesaler in Manchester by a young scrote, telling us we wernt trade, whilst he was in the process of doing this, his dad came out, he was most apologetic and was gutted when he realised who we were, we spent £3000+ a week in the wholesaler down the road from him, and never a penny with him.
A few places will ask for ID, tell them you are just starting out, then as you get invoices etc you can easily show evedence you are a trader, and reap the discounts

Ive got 2 huge Varta truck batteries(about 750 amps each). they were about 48+vat each from local Varta agent. Big old batteries, The bigger the battery I find, the less they seem bothered about frost and cold.
If the tiny suzuki battery my car came with got cold(even when in good condition and fully charged) it just died on me.
Best thing in my opinion is measure the available space, decide where the terminals need to be and what type/size, then call the battery supplier and get the biggest possible battery.

Hasn't missed a beat however if it does you can get two for the price of one from Chavfords.

I have been quoted £40 from Midland brake parts at Great Bridge Tipton.

  He said the bigger the better, but the space isnt very big. Has any body fitted a larger battery in a 300 disco. :D
