Just dug out some old cd's to go on the ipod listening to dire straits love over gold album, and brought back memories about how i could get home from the girlfriends (now wife) to home before telegraph road ended a trip of 8 miles cross country in a series 2a.. 8)  Just wondered what other people's favourite song over 5 minutes long was??  8)

It's about 6minutes isn't it??

'O Superman' (Laurie Anderson) is around the 8'30" mark

Not too sure of the times of some of favourites

'Justice In Ontario' (Steve Earle) must be about 5'30" though??

Well, of course I should nominate Shine On You Crazy Diamond (17:32), but I'm gonna take a punt on Macarthur Park :) (6:25 in the Donna Summer single version) and Paranoid Android by Radiohead (6:23).

Worth an honourable mention is Matty Groves by Fairport Convention (8:09), Child of Vision by Supertramp (7:28 ), and Wouldn't It Be Good by Nik Kershaw (6:46 in the Extended 12" Mix).

Michael Jackson's Thriller is a fourteen-minute music video released in December 1983 to support Michael Jackson's single "Thriller". Directed by John Landis, Thriller is often hailed as the best and most popular music video of all time. "Thriller", in essence, redefined the concept of music videos. It was the most expensive video of its time, costing $800,000 — the equivalent of $1.4 million today. It also held the record for the world's longest music video, until it was beaten by Michael again in 1996, with his 35 minute, long-form music video, Ghosts.

Dont cry (orig) is track 4  (illusion 1) 4m44s (bit special to me + g/f)
:(biglove):  (Track 4 theory- Track 4 is the best on the album)
Patience  is 5m53s a classic but not really a driving song

otherwise.... Salva Mia by Faithless... the best Dance/ House record ever made...

or one of those epic Guns'n'Roses tracks...

...or Master of Puppets by Metallica...

"In-a Gadda-da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly is a full side of an LP, near enough 15 mins I believe...........it is a psych epic from the late '60's.  "The Glorious Om Riff"  over 7 mins - Steve Hillage, from the classic "Green" album, and the "Lemon Song" - Led Zeppelin 6 mins 19 seconds, amazing!  I'm not really an old hippy!

I certainly do, I saw him live when he was on the promotional tour for 'Exit 0', a fantastic gig
He was on stage for about 4hours!!!!

Most memorable song??
He started singing (Springsteens) 'Racing in The Streets' & it segu-ed into 'Sweet Little 66'
Great!!!

I've still got the 12" of that & got to agree it is bl**dy wonderful

I remember John Peel playing it in one of his 'Festive 50s' & commenting along the lines of;
"It's the barely suppressed anger that makes it such a great track"

Certainly agree with BTM on The Men They couldn't Hang's cover of green fields...

A fave of mine is / was 'Sister Ray' by Velvet Underground - a good 20 minutes worth
Plus, of course, any of the 'Floyd stuff previously mentioned

Rock stuff it'd have to be Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd or Kashmir by Led Zeppelin.
Failing that i'll bang on some quality dance tune of some sort

Dire Straits, Telegraph Road

KiloMix (dont remeber his name)

Not sure about length but I'm pretty sure Tangerine Dream's Stratosfear is over 5 mins too. good motorway tune.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Isn't that meant to be 'toon'

Not a driving track, but lights out, laying on the sofa, headphones on, glass of wine (or 3!) and Led Zep's Dazed and Confused (live). 26 minutes and a complete side of an album  :D The one where Jimmy Page plays the guitar with a bow..... sounds like a cat screeching in isolation, but works sooo well in context.

At the moment it's Butterflies and Hurracanes by Muse, but only because Metallica's Heros of the Day falls short of the required 5 mins by a few seconds...
