As most of the time-served regulars on here know I absolutely despise chr**tmas (even more than I do f**tball, & that's saying something)
HoweverSWMBO & myself took 'small-child' & a few of her school-friends (they, & parents, met us there) to the Yorkshire Farming Museum at Murton Park on Saturday.
After paying the entry fees (£4.50 & £5.50), we were all met as a group by a 6'4" 'Elf'
All the 'actors' involved were either a local Theatre group, or a 'care in the community' collective (my reasoning)
He proceeded to take us on a wonderful tour of the dark-age village that they have
We were treated to, amongst other things;
A visit to the blacksmith, who was making new runners for the sleigh & snow-shoes for the Reindeer.
The Reindeers classoom (wooden Reindeer) learning about landing on roofs
Loading the sleigh
Fairy Liquids birthday & 1st flying lesson (gives her a box of Milk Tray, then some yells "Chocs Away" & they get pinched  )
She runs off jumping up & down behind the huts, loads of bangs & the inevitable tins come rolling into view
A present wrapping machine!? It gets jammed & one puts his arm in to unjam it. He shrieks & it come out gift-wrapped
Elf cinema, showing 'Gnome Alone'
Plus other subtle (or not so subtle) concoctions.
All together the Elf village took about 40minutes to get through
(we were there almost 3 hours in total)
Then there's a train ride on the 1/2 mile or so of track they have, where the kids get a pressie from the 'man in red'
They're surprisingly good as well, Amelia got a large colouring set (crayons. pencils & felt-tips)
Adults got Mince-Pies, Sherry (or Orange-Juice)
Then there's the farm & machinery collection to look at
It only opens the Elf-village at weekends,so if you live around Yorkshire, try & get there next weekend.
Your kids will love it. I guarantee it (no refunds from me though, if they don't)
Murton ParkSanta SpecialBy The Way, I still hate chr**tmas in spite of this recommendation
