PC sound all gone :-(
« on: December 21, 2006, 19:44:50 »
Once upon a time my sound card died and a very kind MC member sent me a new sound card with a cd with the driver on it for me which I am very grateful for.

Then one day the very grateful MC member (me) moved house and then needed to reload his computer after the hard drive failed again and multiple virusses.

Now my computer has been rebuilt again I have lost the cd for the sound card :(

The grateful MC member has no idea on how to find out what sound card he has to down load the files from somewhere on the net so he calls upon fellow members to help him out with thier knowledge.

He thanks everyone in advance

Take the side off of your PC and look for a name on the sound card. Might even have a part number or model then try looking on www.driverguide.com

or you could download a program called aida32 which will tell you precisely what it is and where to get the driver from without using such places as driverguide.com which has spyware and crap embedded into it lol

On your desk top, right click on 'my computer' then on 'properties'. This brings up a window that has several tabs on it, one of which is hardware. Click on that and find the sound card on the list. Clicking on that or double clicking will bring up the details and an option to update the driver.

Unfortunately that won't help If he don't have the drivers disk or know what sound card he has.

Probably the easiest solution is to go to a local computer shop and buy a new sound card. They need not be very expensive and really easy to install.

I tell everyone I know who's having trouble with their PC to buy a Mac.

They're quicker than PCs, never get viruses (cos the geeks don't write viruses for them), don't crash, take up half the space, are better designed and cost less than most PCs.

Ditch that creamy grey box in the tip. Go on you know you want to...

Just paid £40 for a mate to reinstall windows hence no sound and he put in another 256 thingies (<-- insert proper word here!!!) so it runs faster and in that £40 I bought a 30gb hard drive (3x the size of my old 1) as the last hard drive made very wierd sqeeling noises. I cant afford a new pc.

Well i said how to do it, but i guess no-one can see me posts!  Very easy if you take my route and doesnt cost a penny!!

Also i am a mac convert and would say that everyone should have one, just wish there was more software compatibility.  I run MS Money on the pc but i cant find anything near as good for the mac, nor can i seem to run an emulator on here.

I just did a Google search on "aida32" and the very first result is a site you can download it from...  :?:  :?:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html

In fact there are several downloads in the first 10 results.  The 9th listed is from The Register, which is fairly reputable and not particularly likely to give you a virus or trojan horse.  Try the search again and follow the link to The Register, then click "Download".

Aida32 is a handy tool for us geeky types. But I feel muddyjames is not that way inclined.

However armed only with a screwdriver and new card from PC World.

Only £7.05p Se link below.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/056691

Only usually 3 screws to undo swap card reboot with the new CD and job done.
