was there a thread about claiming back bank charges? as our bank seems to dish them out like smarties
and at £39 a throw - I wouldnt mind getting some back, and also a little satisfaction in knowing I am getting some justice for the 'little guy'

we've been claiming charges back too... especially seeing as half of them are actually the banks fault. got a few more to do, as it happens.

"administration costs" they tell you.... yeah, as if.

But the other point is that if you didnt go overdrawn then you wouldnt have an issue, the problem is now that people know they can claim them back they will deliberately not make sure money is in their accounts for stuff as they know that they might not get penalised for it and thus now its going to cause massive massive problems.  There is always a downside to everything.

If things were always that simple. Its like when you go over on an account your not even mean't to be able to on like has just happened to me. It went over by £3!!! and they wanna charge me £30 for it..... The account isnt even mean't to be able to go over drawn.

all true... but when your account double earmarks things like our business account does, it causes a LOT of problems... and apparently, nobody seems to care.

the whole "but if you didnt go overdrawn..." theory is all well and good, but life isnt always that simple.

Yeah i know, maybe i didnt make my point properly, i meant more about the fact that if you didnt expect it to be for free, when you go overdrawn its no longer your money, you have borrowed money from the bank without authorisation, for example would you take a fiver out of your wifes/husbands purse and not expect an earbashing for it? same thing!

Banks have been breaching their own terms of business for years and getting away with it, they deserve everything they get in my opinion.
They take your money for 5 days when you write a cheque, what gives them the right to do this, you can`t have your cake and eat it.

Jolly good, i look forward to the winge your going to make when you get charged for banking because everyone has made the banks broke by taking all their money back for charges.  Yes the banks overcharged but then backdating the collections is wrong.  There was a contract in place saying this would happen to you if you go overdrawn which you sign when you apply for the account so therefore i think its personally wrong that it should be backdated.

Personally I have never been overdrawn in my entire life, both personal and business.
The banks have never helped me in my business, even when I started to deal with large multi nationals like McDonalds, I did my own thing when it came to cash flow, I have some very good friends who are thankfully wealthy and could see the benefit of a good return for 14 days risk, unlike the bank who wanted my house as security, where is the risk, there isn`t any risk involved in what banks do..........They are legalised shisters.
Out of principal I now make it my business to spread my accounts over the sector to ensure that I receive nearly free banking, it may make it more difficult to monitor and consolidate my books, but it is done out of principal.
I dislike Banks intensely and their practices and brain washing, which thankfully people are beginning to see through.

This it true.  People know when they go overdrawn that they are going to incur charges - it is in the terms and conditions of their account.

Of course if all these people get their charge back then the customers who operate their account correctly may get penalised, after all:
Banks are in business to make money -they are not a charity so when you take their money they will charge you.

They are lending you their money when you go overdrawn

And the shyster bank I used to work for made an absolute mint every day.  Not from their customers who go overdrawn but from the ones they play BIG, and by christ do I mean BIG money.

You and me and the other "little" people don't make them that much money.

What nicks me off is when the bank charges are what takes you overdrawn and they charge you a second time for that happening.  I just hate banks sometimes, they make all that money and then pretend to care about us.

If you overdraw yourself then the charges you can put up with but:

When the bank overdraws you by making a charge for something or even worse:

When they refuse to allow you to over draw by a couple of pounds and return your cheque or refuse your dd and then charge you twice the amount taking you further overdrawn....

Then that is really not on and should be made illegal

And that is why I don't use a high street bank any more

Aye, pet hate of mine that one too.

I've had a letter today from Bank of Scotland (happy xmas!) saying that i owe them £15...i rang to ask why and its because my FREE business banking has become not free, and is now £15 a month unless i have a balance of £5000+ (i wish), when i rang i was told i also had another charge on its way, for next month so i am currently writing to cancel my account and tell them what they can do with their charges
