Running like a bag of spanners
« on: December 28, 2006, 21:40:09 »
Hi all
I have bought a 1989 rr, It has been standing for a year. Was running fine up untill me trying to start it when I bought it. I drained the old fuel off, put new petrol in It started but wont tick over if i hold the loud pedal down there is a delay in it reving but then it will get to the revs and sit there missing but remains quite stable. If i rev it over 5 grand it wont miss and sounds smooth, but I drop the revs a bit it will cut out altogther and not start again for about 30 mins. I have changed the plug. It is a 3.5 efi auto. Can anyone help please.

alot of people usualy say HT leads and the normal stuff like that....

but why not try looking at the engine to chassis earth lead.....

not the engine to body lead, the one near the amplifier as mine had the bad running after i reconed the engine.... it wud run fine until about 30mins of running then it wud missfire like a bitch and wud hardly pull off.... i wud have to put it into neutral run the boIIox off it over 5000RPM then put it into drive, i thought of everything it may have been but nothing made sence.......

with my dad been an electrician he told me it could have been a dodgy earth but i kept telling him it had a good earth going from the engine to the body near the amplifier,l then he went on to say stuff i didnt understand, but basicaly that might not have been good enough

found out that the body to chassis cable had snaped, fixed it and guess what, it ran ace again......

its the one near the battery and goes close to the starter motor as it the quickest way to the starter motor when u turn the key....

try it it might help
I LOVE MUD!!!!!! but my engine doesnt
