No ignition lights
« on: December 30, 2006, 13:38:53 »
Went to my Disco this morning, put the key in the ignition and................nothing.

I've got Hazard light, interior lights and the horn works, nothing else.

It's a 1994 200tdi, fitted with  Landrover computer anti theft system ( a grey plastic disc, you waft around the dashboard/steering column to make the red light go off)

Any ideas, I've checked fuses I can find, seem to think there might hbe another fusebox I can't find ( I've lent my manual to someone) .

Thanks

I've got one of those funny disk things, can you hear the relays in it's guts click when the red lights goes off (assuming you mean the imobiliser light).

open the bonnet and if you face the front of the car on the drivers side under the wiring loom you will see some wires runing in to what looks like a cloth wrapped around the wires. cut open the cloth and cheak the wires are still solidered together. there are three sets of wires one of them is for the alarm and its commom for the solider to comw apart as the cloth is open to the elements and the rain gets in and corroiueds the joint.
Hope that helps

I do mean the immboliser light, theres no light on it at all. And I can't hear the relay click.

Is there anyway of getting rid of the alarm system for now because I need the Disco tomorrow?

gtomo2 -  I can't find the wire, am I being a bit thick?

Thanks, Badger

No your not been thick look against the inner wing under the wiring loom. it look like just some cloth wrapped around a seconed wiring loom. if you trace them back from the battery you will see the wiring loom goes from one to two looms follow the lower one and you will see it. Its normally in the middle between the font of the wing and the bulk head pined against the inner wing. If you still have no look i will take a pic of were and what it is. but cant do it til tomorrow as its dark and wet

I've found it this morning - they're all intact and fine!

Anymore ideas would still be very helpful!!

Thanks for the help!

could be the main wire going it to the alarm box it is soldered on to a post inside the alarm box this can come loose ( dry joint) and stop the alarm form working. do you still get the led flashing or is that dead as well?

Hi gtomo2

Led light is dead as well ?

I've cut the immboliser out and still no ignition lights. I've now reconnected everything back and short of setting fire to it - I'm stumped!

Did you try bypassing the imobiliser, mine is wired into the original loom so with a bit of work it would be possible to remove it.

The immobiliser has been by-passed (disconnected) and there was still no ignition lights.

I've reconnected all the wires back to how they should be and it looks like it'll be going to a garage on Tuesday.

Have got a similar problem so would appreciate what the local garage says - on the A1 the other night, 200 miles from home - all ignition plus headlights went dead at the same time. Nothing I have tried since has changed it.

Thanks
