For all you drivers out there...

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Sign and pass it on. It only takes a minute.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website.

We are loosing about 2% of our population a year aparently. All moving off overseas. 1 Million brits left last year.

Having done it, I can understand why. Aparently Auz is the top destination.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Gps based devices are unreliable already, just get the black box, wrap some tinfoil over it, and its screwed, jump  in the car and drive for free.

Sounds like an idea that'll never work to me.
Go on....cut me in half........it says SUZUKI all the way thru the middle!!

I'm getting sick of this " We hate motorists" Time to tax the ramblers and Horse riders, why the hell do we have to pay it all. This happens and I will seriously consider moving to my house in Czech... "So long and thanks for all the fish!"

Actually there's an idea, let's all move to his house in Czech, register our cars there and then come back as EU citizens.  That way we never have to pay parking tickets, speeding tickets or 'fess up when we hit somebody.

I'm liking the look of New Zealand.

Personaly I think that this will never happen, forcing everyone to have a tracking device in their cars would be an infringment of civil liberties. Some rich geezer will get a solicitor and take it to Strassburg and have it thrown out!.

Also the police haven't enough manpower to enforce our current laws so who the hell is going to police this lunatic idea. The trackers in our work vans don't work 100% of the time so this would be another problem.

This idea has been suggested before and it got abandoned then. However, as technology gets closer to making it practical, it becomes more likely to happen. I'm off to sign in the optimistic idea that it might make a difference!!!

Just had a look and it's up to 105,110 signatures. Way more than any other petition in the transport section.

And I see the ramblers to wave red flags is still there

I am SO going to get abuse at me now!!!

If the goverment abolished all road tax and petrol tax and the box wasnt used for catching us accidently looking and waving to another MC'er and popping over the speed limit for a few seconds then I am up for it. Oh and as long as they dont make the payments stupidly high as well.

I guess I am biased as I love early morning start times with jobs so I never drive in rush hour. sod doing that 5 days a week. NO thanks. I like my afternoons off too.

But before you do all kill me..........................

I know the goverment will be arse parts and screw us for every penny going so I am dead against it.

If the goverment help us and look after us and stop all this anti 4x4 stuff and getting rid of byways then I will be happy to give them some money to look after the roads etc but as there is not a hope in on the life of this earth then nope. I am against Tony (just add ever expletive going here) Blair

One of the main problems with this system will be who pays the charge, the bill will go to the owner of the vehicle, if I am not driving my car how can I be liable for a charge

You will probably get a card like the digital tacho card which you put in the machine each time you drive. Open for loads of fraud though I think

The easiest way to control traffic is to restrict parking, it would be cheap and effective, the government wouldn't like this method because  they wouldn't be able to fleece the motorist, no parking or stopping around schools would kill the school run, restricted and short term parking in city centers, if you can't park there is not point driving
