They were a good idea, it's just the rest of the world that's all messed up!

Bet you didn't know that most of the ones sold when to the  GLC, apparently they wanted to give them out to old folks to help them get around but they were never handed out.

Watched it last night :) , and whilst 'technically' they are a good idea.... but in a defender would you see one directly in front of you at traffic lights?

I remember seeing a woman that had one at the time in Northampton,  we'd see her dicing with death at the local roundabout, even as an teenager with no road sense it was scary.

I seem to remember that you could get an official accessory comprising a pole and an orange flag to deal with such an eventuality :-)

Good idea , you'd need them!

The more I think about them, the more lethal they seem

You'd certainly have to dodge them.
I wonder where even a standard bumper might connect?

I had one once - got rid of it for 75 quid.  Of course, they're worth thousands now...  Doh!

I wasn't old enough to drive at the time, so just drove it round the pavements, which was technically illegal but nobody seemed to mind.

The big question is...

What were they like off-road? Can you fit winches? Lift the suspension? Swap the engine for a big V8?
