There's been a lot of cross-posting recently (the same message in several different forums).  As I always tend to "View posts since last visit", so see all new messages regardless of which forum they're posted in, I'd prefer not to see cross-posting, partly as you then have to check several threads to keep up with the discussion, and also because people can waste time duplicating answers.

Does anybody else have any opinions on this?  I'm not going to make a big fuss about it, but if the majority of others don't like it either, maybe it's worth encouraging people not to.

You do tend to see stuff in both RRC and Disco forums, the worst thing is that the threads can go off in different directions and as it's often technical stuff I think it's counter productive.  I read other other people's threads as I find them interesting sometimes, I don't know but i think we should discourage it a little.

Only thing is, when you need an answer in a hurry, where is the best place to post?

I thought that cross-posting on forums (not just Mud Club) was frowned upon. I think people should refrain from doing it.

I have no problem with it tbh. There are lots of people who dont visit M/C for example. I only visit 2 forums, m/c and LRUK, if something is posted on difflock then I dont see it for instance.

Im not a member of DOC for example so I may not know a topic has been started over there similar to my thread.

I spend far too much time on forums as it is and dont want to make myself even sadder by joining more off road forums!!!

OK - we need a definition of "forum" here!

Are we talking Mud-Club = forum, LRUK = forum?

Or Greenlaning = forum, Regional Meets = forum (all on Mud Club)?

Well, I wouldn't call it "cross-posting" then, it's just posting the same info on multiple sites!

Mud Club is the only 4x4 site I frequent, so in that case I'm all for cross-posting :)

As David mentioned that he views 'posts since last visit' and refers to same posts in that respect I would imagine he means just here and the same posts in cross-posted in different sections

We (moderators) do attempt to keep things tidy when cross posting occurs however if people have replied to different posts the forum software has a knack of committing the threads to the internet ether when we try and tidy up! However, we are just ordinary members the same as everyone else, just with a bit more responsibility  so the odd posts do get started beyond our control/tidying up abilities.

A recent example was the 'help to crush my Range Rover' - this was posted on about 6 different sections, fortunately only one post had been replied to so the un-replied to posts where removed and the post with the reply to moved to the most relevant section.

My pet hate is for sale posts with the subject... 'for sale' - no! Really? No wonder it's posted in the for sale section then!!!

That does bug me alot. Also in the wanted section people put wanted and in spotted area spotted. It would be nice if mods if they have the time to adjust these topics to suit what it actualy is.

ChrisW's got what I meant - messages posted on to several different sections within Mud-Club, rather than messages posted on totally different forums on the Internet.  An example might be posting a "For Sale" message in the "For Sale" section, then posting exactly the same message in the "Range Rover" section.

Yeah, that really gets on my wick too - I completely ignore anyones for sale thread that only has the subject as " for sale ".........................................

At least, that's what I'd like to do - but my nose always gets the better of me !

I think that's the general idea, curiosity and all that.
