recovered tonight with the help of a diver and a large tractor!  Tractor was feeling the pull of the current - and weighs seven tonnes!

pics will appear on www.tv4x4.co.uk and on mud-club if I can work out how to resize them

watch out for the flow as well as the depth of them there fords!

Glad everyone is OK.... but I noticed that the depth board was reading 4 feet as the reporter walked across the front... not sure I'd tackle a 4 foot ford in a group never mind on my own!

That looks like a serious amount of water.
One look at the depth board would have put me off, plus the speed of the current should have warned him off.

Wonder if the truck driver kept his job (he sounded worried)

These folk seem to lack basic common sense ! The first chap attempted it at night knowing it would have been deeper than normal and it had plenty of warning signs.
The truck driver could clearly see it was very wide and flowing fast.
I would'nt say he deserves the sack but at least a telling off.

First chap attempted it on Sunday after a pay and play,  not sure what the depth marker said then or if it was dark or not.

He didn't realise for two weeks either

The comment form one of the guys in the lorry was good "it's not a ford it's a river", sorry but isn't that the whole idea of a ford, to cross a river

Even so it's nice in the summer and madness in the winter after rain, so stupid to try either way

!F! no
I just know the people who could and did get the 4x4 out - I'm not brave enough to get into 4 feet of water flowing at 20 knots and don't drive a tractor!

On that clip with the 4x4 in the water, I could have sworn I saw a periscope go past!
I'm sorry to say this and there but for the grace of God go I, but they must have been daft to even attempt it.

It's easy to look at it and think what an idiot, but I think there are many of us here who might have been tempted to give it a go...

we never get any extreme weather our way.... no flash floods, no torrential rain.... no snow AT ALL.......... extreme bad weather warnings for us mean "miserable looking day warning"
