Rear Winch Mount On Disco
« on: January 14, 2007, 19:04:56 »
Hi peeps, I got a question for y'all...

I want to mount a winch on the rear of the new Disco offroader, Has anyone done this bofore and if so any pictures please. I have looked about and cant see anywhere this has been done, I still need the use of the back door so no good putting it on top of the rear cross member.

Regards, Terry

i think i read an article in the LRM where someone had fitted a rear winch to a disco and they cut out the existing rear crossmember and manufactured a combined crossmember/winch tray. Alot of work but looked great!!

good luck :)

Saw one on a disco, where he had moved his fuel tank and mounted it in the space

thats crossed my mind. to put it in the back as mines the van body.

Devon do a x-member with winch mount for about £500, not sure if it fits a Disco though

Hi again, thanks for the replys, to be honest the only real way I can see this is gonna work is to remove the rear cross member and fabricate a mount to go in there...I am an engineer by trade so should be able to think of a way, but not sure I can really be bothered to go that extreme...t is just a pay and play day motor after all...Maybe if I were competing then I would go to the effort....Will just make sure I have got good rear recovery eyes to get pulled out....Oh Errr :D

I realise that this probably isn't what you've got in mind but I'm so pleased with it that I couldn't pass up the chance to post a piccy :)

That was the first trial fitting. Hope to get it completed shortly and give it a test, er, pull. It'll eventually be mountable on the front too.

Unless you want to do a demountable unit, with plug ins for the electrics. depending on how often you are going to need it

£60 for a back-rak mount from Dave Bowyer of Goodwich, all you need is a towball.
