Was driving accress the QEII Bridge from Essex into Kent at the w/e and spotted what looked like a 110 pickup, but when I got infront and looked in the rearview saw the grille and snout were totally different from a Defender. Got photos but all were side profiles which don't help much.

I have a funny feeling the chassis might have been 110 in fact, something funny about the cab - looked a few inches too long. :?

Was a business tool too. Had Co. logo on side.

Any ideas? Is there a South American company who make LR copies - Lama or something - or is this just my mind playing tricks? :oops:

Someone on MC is bound to know the answer...

Santana Motor SA has had a long association with Land Rover having built in the region of 300,000 'Series' vehicles from 1958 through to 1985. By the end of this period the vehicles being built were quite different from the parent company, and in 1990 all links with Land Rover ceased. Production continued of a range of Land Rover derived vehicles designated the Santana 2500 until the early nineties. In Spain, Santana Land Rovers of all ages are a common sight and have gained an almost legendry status. From 1985 to the present day, Santana has been building 4x4s for Suzuki, including the Samurai, Vitara and Jimny.
It is from this background of 45 years of experience in building 4x4 vehicles that Santana has come into the market with a new heavy duty 4x4 commercial vehicle.
Linares, the location of the Santana factory in southern Spain, was the home of Hannibal (Anibal in Spanish) famed for crossing the Alps with a troop of elephants. Hence in Spain, the vehicle is badged Anibal, while for the rest of the world it retains its development code number of PS10.

I was and still am thinking about them as I dont fit in a defender. IIRC they are what the series 4 would have been, but they've had a massive interior facelift and actually have a dash :)

Theres a Honda Disco clone too, Honda Crossroad


Well I say clone, aparently it IS a disco with Honda bits added.

Surley not!

ps: them santanas are fairly nice been on a tame off road thing mind and although ooohdles of torque there it just didnt seem to articulate, i like em tho.

Depends, when I got the delorean I was asking about reliability and I was told it was as reliable as your average Honda Saloon. month later one of the cam belts went and it ate half the engine :)

I think it was Drutt I was talking to about it, aparently they are litterally just rebadges with a few different touches on the bumpers, badges, interior etc.

The parabolic springs give enough articulation for it to get jobs done.  It's not a competition vehicle, it's a workhorse.

True true although i wasnt comparing it to anything challenge i just remeber looking and thinking well our old 110 would do that, still a nice vehicle tho especialy the miltary version that was at SED. Now a military dropside tipper theres a thought...

I wouldn't.  Not when the Santana build quality is apparrantly better than Land Rover's Defender's, and it's a lot cheaper for very similar performance and out performs the Defender in many other useful ways.

A prime example is that the Defender rear door isn't wide enough for a pallet to be loaded horizontally.  But a PS10's is! ;)

JUDAS!! :shock: !!

I would like to have a close up look at one to see for myself. They do look as though they're made of plastic.

I must say that the prices look better than LR's. I imagine they'd be very good work horses.

LRO tried one last year, the series at Gaydon and a Defender.  The Santana is a hlafway house as far as off-road goes, better than the SIII but way behind a stock Defender.  But as said it's a workhorse, it can tow 3.5 tonnes, drive off-road, carry a pallet in the back, has oodles of torque and was slapped with the ugly stick.  At least it won't get stolen.

I was talking to the local santanna dealer looks like they have Land rover reliability, gearbox's going bang etc.. oh and the engine's out of an Iveco..Oh dear :(  :(  and have you seen the build quality on the dash etc... Personaly i wouldn't buy a new land rover or santanna i would be to disapointed in the build quality of them both.. :?  :?
