I had an accident
« on: January 17, 2007, 21:24:47 »
Enjoying a nice night in with a couple of cans of Tennants Super consumed and a pint of cider in the glass, sweet.

Laptop on and mobile phone on the settee arm I have no need to leave my seat.

Suddenly things aint so good as i've knocked the mobile phone from the comfort of the settee arm into my glass of cider. PANIC,PANIC,PANIC.

Cant get the phone out as i've got big muckshovellers and I dont want to waste my cider so the phone is really soaked to the point of not working.

I've put it ontop of the radiator to dry out but the outcome probably wont be good will it?

Gonna eat a pizza now to take my mind of things
Cheers, Nathan.

The old Nokias were very robust and could survive the odd dunking quite easily...

But I suspect you have one of these fancy "Beam me up scotty" style phones haven't you?

Don't panic, you might be lucky.  If I were you I'd take the battery off, give it a good rinse under cold water, and then put it in the airing cupboard for a few days.  Don't reconnect the battery until you're sure it's dry.  More often than not they seem to survive.

my mates phone fell into a pint of snakebite and black and it never worked properly again so im not sure i fancy your chances!

If you havent already, take the battery out and leave the whole thing in the airing cupboard for a week or so and see if you get lucky. I have seen ones that have gone in plain water brought back to life this way, but alcholic drinks have always killed em!

It could be worse, you could have knocked the cider onto the laptop.
Oh and if it was water i'd say you had a decent chance, but cider, well good luck :)

Go get some de-iojnised water, take the battery out and give it another dammn good dunking and you may be ok.

De-Ionised water is pure, tap water isnt and contains corrosive chemicals that will eventually nail the phone. These things are ussually washed in de-ionised water before assembly.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

I managed to take my phone swimming with me once. I noticed that my leg was starting to get hot, took the phone out of my trunk pocket, it was getting a bit warm & making nice hissing & spitting noises. However a good shake to get the water out & night on the radiator saw it fine again.

Hopefully, it will be fine.

Take it apart, clean all the suggary gunk off the inside of the keyboard, any electrical conectors you can find, etc; stick it on top of the boiler in bits for a day or two and hope.

If you have a pretty basic phone, odds are good it will be fine. Otherwise, moan at your phone supplyer for another phone.

I used to own a chippy and managed to drop my Nokia 8210 in the pan. 30 litres of vegetable oil at 350F yet when I got it out it still worked. The front plastic had warped and the mic was muffled but it worked.
