I've been told by the father-in-law that Arriva (he's a Vehicle Inspector for them) are very being very careful where they route Double-Deckers at the moment.

He also said that;
The A1 is closed between the new intersection with the M62 to Bramham (A64 junction)& at Wentbridge
M1 didn't say which stretch
M62 30 & 32, than also 2 lanes closed at Hartshead Moor Services & also at Brighouse

All to high-sided vehicles, as there's multiple turn overs on them already

Going to be a busy & chaotic evening.................

Glad I'm not at work

I've known a few bad gales when I lived up in Norfolk, but they usually brought snow with them from The Steppes.
Don't like the wind down here. Too warm for January.

Yep, Norfolk has been a tad blustery this afternoon. There were power lines down just down the road I understand and some large trees are down in the next village.

I'm off out now so I'll take a look around.

With the rain as well, I'm sure there will be a few floods too.

've been told by the father-in-law that Arriva (he's a Vehicle Inspector for them) are very being very careful where they route Double-Deckers at the moment.  (Bush Tucker Man) We do a lot of the repair work for Arriva Wakefield and Yorkshire, could be a busy few weeks coming then!!

I have been Blackburn - Speke (liverpool) - Blackburn today with one of our lads taking a double decker bus back, the wind was blowing it all over the place, got there and the wind had blown a canopy off his depot, you could hardly stand up in it.  On the way back we were in Maccy D's and a shop sign and part of the traffic lights blew past the windows, I saw a van driver with a piece of one of those advert boards at the side of the m/way in his screen, a 7.5 tonner at the end of the M57 sat on a rover estate and an artic on its side on the M6 which appeared to have taken a 7.5 tonner out with it, glad I wasn't driving an unladen truck today or in a hurry to get anywere, only hope everyone involved was OK, just watched news, 5 dead up to now in North West![/list]

Very windy here too. At work (Dungeness Power Station) we have had windows blowing out. I had to go aroung the site and tie things down, and barrier most of it off. Cladding sheets 20' square flying off like kites. :(

Certainly was horrendous traffic here in the Midlands tonight. I think all the local motorways (M1/M6/M42/M40) have been shut at one point or another. All traffic re-directed onto local roads leading to chaos. Went past a 6 mile (at least) traffic jam on the Fosseway - luckily my direction was clear. Then I took to the lanes just to keep clear of it all! Luckily no trees down.

Down here on the suffolk coast, we recorded 72mph winds.

One or two buildings damaged and some of the beach went out to sea, and, has'nt come back yet

In Lincolnshire we had speeds of 90-100mph
Lorries on their sides and trees down. I heard of 3 homes that lost their roofs and a cottage who's gable end collapsed!

Not from that trip but it is from briercliffe.  To be honest, mine has hardly moved since then.  Handbrake binding on a touch and radiator knackered but they were both like that before i went.  Will be buying a rad in the next few weeks and sorting handbrake but then I think I might flog it.  Fancy a range rover classic.

Unless I can find someone to swap I suppose! ;)

Also many trees & fences down, roof collapsed at lads school (nobody hurt) most of the shopping centers and town centers shut.

And there's never a Policeman around with a speed camera when you need one

The Audi dealership in Norwich lost it's roof yesterday. The building has only been there for a short time!

The local fords were brimming again last night. Had the headlights of the Zuke completely under water. Exciting, not being able to see where you are going while battling with fast flowing water    About 3 feet or so without the bow wave.
