I hope the mods don't mind but as many of you would have been familiar with Alan Smart as he was such a well known character within the Land Rover community I'd like to cross post this sad news from the DOC forum.

Without doubt my worst duty as Chairman of the Discovery Owners Club. It is with much sadness that I inform you of the death of our beloved friend and colleague, Alan Smart. As many of you will know Alan was diagnosed with cancer last year and his decline in health over Christmas resulted in his passing peacefully in the early hours of this morning.

The contribution that Alan made to this club is immeasurable. With great skill and passion Alan was one of the true guiding lights on committee since the club's inception, as Discourse Editor, Archivist and Secretary. Jono and I took time off work yesterday to go and visit him and bring him up to speed to with everything that was going on with the club. Despite his illness, the interest and enthusiasm he showed gives some idea of the passion Alan had for all things Land Rover.

Our thoughts and condolences go to his widow, Janet and the family.

We will bring you funeral arrangements and other details as we learn them for those that wish to attend.

Words fail me.

Our thoughts are with Janet and the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Alan in my capacity as the chairman of the DOC.  I don't know what else to say :( He was a good friend and always had good advice when approached. I will miss him.

They seem like good words to me Neil. I am so glad that I went yesterday, although it was a little distressing. He was so keen to find out what was going on and we got the thumbs up which was good.
