Series 3 88 Electrics
« on: January 21, 2007, 10:45:13 »
I am in the process of buying my first Landy series 3, 1984, 88.
There was a little welding required to the chassis, unfortunatly they forgot to disconnect the battery so some of the electrics have fried.  With the wires replaced can I expect any problems with any other componants??????
Thanks Chris

What is it that has stopped working?
Where was the welding?

Is it just rear lights that have stopped working, or anything else also?
Amber is a 1971 Series IIa with a 2286 petrol

Normally the only reason to disconnect the battery is to protect the Alternator.  If parts were fried I would suspect some other cause.

Can I suggest going over all the electrics with a fine tooth comb (especially earth points).

Suspect you alternator if you did not disconect it

I was taught to disconect both battery and Alternator before any arc welding on a vechicle something to do with the diodes

remember to reconect the Alternator after as running it, dis conected can damge this too, seen a few Alternators damaged this way.

We use message notes stuck to speedos to remind any one trying to start vechicle
Without a club  2008 - any takers

Thanks for the replies :D
I will ask the question when I next contact him.  Its with the welder, to repair, at present.  Hopefully it will be OK for the weekend.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks again
