i'm looking to build this year and looking to see what people think would be the ultimate vehicle, parts, accessories, tyres, lockers etc etc to use.
might make for some intersting reading too. i will be using the car on roads so it carnt be nothing too extreme.

i'm thinking Series 1 pick up (90" or 100") modded on coiler, 300 tdi uprated, manual box, disc conversion hand brake,  ARB's in Range rover axels, uprated sahfts, warn 8274-50 x2 internal controls, simex extreme tyres on mach 5 with bead lockers, caged,  unsure about suspension yet, all the normal parts camber correct arms and rear trailing arms. poly bushed, sliders, side and underneith, Snorkel,

all views really welcome :) i'm looking to build may / june time.

First question - what are you going to do with it / use it for?

yeah what do you want. Sorry but everything is a compromise. If you want the ultimate offroader then road manners are little to do with it.
If you havent had simexes you are in for a rude awakening...they arent exactly road tyres. BTW series 1 is 80 inch so loads of work to make 90 or 100 inch, besides i wouldnt mess with a decent series one they really are LR's heritage.

Why not hit Bluetorch Fabrication(usa) for a tube frame buggy chassis, maybe a 4 seater so theres some room for friends/gear, get a big block V8 in there with a propane conversion so itll run at silly angles, bung under a 3 speed Atlas transfer cas and a big ass auto box.
Throw under a pair of rockwell axles, and tyres no less than 42" diameter, and for me, you are getting near the ultimate.

Oh yeah, chuck in a nitrous kit and big stereo for laughs

ok lets start again. built a very good 90.  My aim was to build a 90 that would last, i feel i achieved that.

now i want to build a very good off road machine but use a series one on a range rover chassi. I love the shape of the S1, also they are so light and basic i feel i have to use the one i found abought for penuts many years ago.

I want to enter winch / 2 vehicle team challenges, aimed for winching and really fun like the Warn Challenges or do a few Alp challenges.
