Why is it?
« on: January 25, 2007, 20:51:24 »
people feel the need to have something stuck in their ear all the time? another numpty walked out in front of me today with an ipod plugged into their brain and then blames me    for nearly running them over
dont people like listening to the sounds around them anymore like the approaching van coming up the road everywhere you look there they are , 2 white wires hanging off their head oblivious to the world around them

or is it just me :?

If you run them over, you're just helping out the gene pool.

Yep, i loathe them also -- i work on the trains, and when making important announcements regarding stopping patterns ect, after they have missed there stop, they come up to me bleating on about "no body told me" with the little white wires hanging from there ears still

It always amazes me how people can still have them in and hold a conversation, not only is it bloody rude but must be distracting?

It seems that people don't like to know about what's going on around them these days.

Most pedestrians and cyclists think that it is their God given right to do stupid things in the road (the Highway Code covers them too, not just the drivers of motorised vehicles) on the basis that the person in the car or lorry that squashes them should know that they are about to run across the road less than 10 yards from a pedestrian crossing, or cycle through a red traffic light.
The other day I saw a group of people waiting at the end of the zig-zags by a zebra crossing in order to cross the road rather than use the crossing itself!

It was also my understanding that you should not be distracted when driving. Surely having an ipod plugged into your head is a 100% of the time distraction? Technically the car radio is also a distraction but it is not normally blotting out all other noise.

I turn my radio off when I am in busy unfamiliar surroundings to improve my concentration. Pity I cant turn off the kids they are the biggest distraction while driving.

I see in the paper today someone was killed on a train platform   hit by the train as they were too wrapped up in their ipod to notice they were too close to the edge

Yuk! Messy! I wonder what was the last thing that went through their mind?
Apart from the train, of course.

I see with interest the police want an offence made if you walk around with an ipod in your ear now, some places in america have banned it already as 3 people have been killed stepping off the pavement and being hit by cars as they didnt hear them coming

what are you meant to do with it then? listen to it in your bedroom? :? only when its safe to do so though! if you dont hear granny bringing your tea, she might drop it and scald herself. SUE APPLE!

i doubt it was an ipod that made someone get hit by a car/train/falling piano... sheer stupidity and the thick as [!Expletive Deleted!] aspect of things is probably much more likely.

Of course they do and some civil servant will realise that making a law just for iPods is not right as there are other manufacturers so the law will be worded so that it will be illegal to walk or drive in a public area or on public roads with an ear piece in your ear(s)

And the whole population of deaf people will be arrested, charged and convicted. Which will cheer the police up no end because their conviction rate will have shot through the roof
