Steering guard fitting
« on: January 27, 2007, 19:10:06 »
Ive just bought a secondhand paddocks steering guard and want some advice on where the rear of the guard fixes under the vehicle.

The front obviously fixes to the bumper mounting points but im unsure about the 2 fixing holes underneath. Can anyone tell me where these bolt to and if the bolts are already in situ on the car or whether I need to buy some.

Any pics would be welcome too.
Cheers, Nathan.

The drivers side goes through the same fixing hole as the big drop arm thingy    should already be a bolt in place but when I did mine I managed to shear it
The one on the passenger side goes through the same place but on the opposite chassis leg - this will be empty and you will need a bolt for it, something like M12x100-120mm should do it.
(If you hold the guard up all should become apparent).

Have fun getting the one on the drivers side out.
Had to grind the head off mine, then drift the bolt out, while tightening the nut to pull the bolt out.
 Otherwise it's an easy job.

Yep that bolt is a b******!!!
So remember to put copper lube on the bolts you put back in so you dont have to do it all again if you ever want it off for some reason!
Oh and use high tensile bolts! :P

agreed, that big bolt was a sod to get out, had to drift mine out with a big hammer....

put lots of grease on it when you put it all back together, and as the others said, if you replace any bolts use hi-tensile, and new nylocs...

looked at the steering guard on my disco today, it seams to have been doing its job properly as its bent upwards into a gentle arc now!!!!

On a lot of RRC the passenger's side has a bolt in it too, with the earth strap bolted on.
