Driving Lights
« on: January 27, 2007, 20:50:26 »
Hi all, i bought a parir of ring spotlights today, shiney kit syndrome!

They are the spotlight round ones. My question is when perople mount these on their bumper do they use spots or fogs?

Wil i notice much difference having a pair of spots on the bumper or shoudl i mount fogs on the bumper and spots on a roofbar (which i would have to buy and funds are really limited right now).

Thanks

Chris

I think alot depends on when you are planning on using them i.e if you want them for better road driving visibility then the roof mounted ones aren't very good as you get alot of glare off the bonnet and are also illegal i think?

I have been thinking of mounting a couple of spot lights on my bumper for road driving and using my roof lights when off roading/laneing as you are then travelling alot slower so the glare isn't as distracting.

hope this helps

Thanks, Dr!

Just in case it helps, i have bought the ring lens and they have the rules on them.

Fogs must be moiunted less than 400mm from corner of vehicle and less than 1.2m high however with spots you may mount them anywhere as long as they do not come on with dipped lights and do not cause glare.

Sounds like spots can be used anywhere!

Spots can be used anywhere and at any diftance apart as long as they are in pairs.

Fogs can be moounted above the bumper, not sure about the 1.2 metres but must be under the headlights effectively as they can legally be used in place of headlights so have to markt he width of the vehicle.

You will find though that fog lights mounted above the bumper will not be much use, the beam pattern is very low and very very wide, if you lift them up too much all you get is a bright pencil line across the road, totally useless.
