Td5 auto problems
« on: January 30, 2007, 18:07:46 »
The gear selector mechanism on the Disco is getting stiff, sometimes the indicator-sliding bit (thing that shows what gear you are in by the lever), seems to 'lag' behind the movement of the lever. I'm hoping that all it needs is a good lubing up (don't we all !!!), but where do I start ?

I guess that I could do with getting the cover round the base of the gear lever off - but how does it come off, there's no visible screws, and I've given it a gentle tug but it still doesn't shift.

When (if !) I get this cover off, will I find a cable or linkage that needs lubing...........or am I looking at ££££ for a 'box problem ?

TIA
Jim

had this on a RR, just needed a new cable wasnt major. it sometimes would mess about getting in reverse, selector would say it was in but it wasnt quite there, or sometimes it would be in gear and the selector would not line up, as you say drag behind. you could be in gear but selector would be in neutral..

cheers
