Twin Sockets Behind Grill...!!!!!!
« on: January 31, 2007, 23:18:19 »
I noticed the other day while wiring up my front spots that I have a pair of  round sockets hiding away behind the front grill on my 300 Tdi XS. My first thought was these must be for fitting aux lights but they don't seem to have any live feed to them, I was wondering if any of you kind folk know what these are for...??? I had a look in my trusty Haynes manual but can't seem to find them on any of the wiring diagrams.

Thanks in advance
Mark.

Only other thing I know of that is mounted behind the grille are the horns - you don't have aftermarket air horns or something do you?

They are for fog lamps, but won't be live without the relay and switch which are part of the kit.

I thought the fog lamp connectors usually hang behind the headlamps as they are part of that loom. Aren't they square connectors as well?

Many thanks for all your fast replies.

My disco has had a few owners in its past but it's pretty much standard.
I'm not really sure about the fog light idea as it's already got factory fit fogs in the lower bumper. But then again I could be wrong...lol

That would only leave the connectors for the headlamp levelling motors then I guess

It's a bit strange really, both sockets join the factory wiring loom behind the drivers side head light and work there way back to behind the battery, but then I loose them in the mass of wires.

It all looks standard fitment to me but these sockets wont reach to each headlight.I would post a picture but it's dark and you can't really see them very well as my bull bars are in the way...lol

They may well be for the headlamp leveling motors, My disco doesn't have this feature so they may be left over from the wiring loom.

The possibilities are endless...

I have twin electric fans infront of the rad for the air-con, the plugs could be for that if you don't have air-con fitted?

My Disco doesn't have air con so they could be for the fans.

Many thanks for all your answers.
