accident tonight

Saw on the way home from cheshire today a military landrover on its side just south of Birmingham on the m6 (north) looked very nasty- accident must have happened around 3pm.  

Air Ambulance and plenty of police about.

Hope the driver and passengers are ok

Difficult to say as it was on its side, but I know that it was a nato green 110 like the one in the picture - I do seem to recall that it had a ribbed roof like the early 90s & 110s , does this one have this?

It does have a ribbed roof and it was on it's passanger side on the M6. :shock:

Before moving into vehicle design, I was involved with design of optical equipment for the military. Gun sights, artillery directors, etc. Every prototype would be field tested by squadies for days before being returned for assessment. You can imagine some of the returned items!

One of the funny tests was actually for someone elses product. We were out on Salisbury plain testing a sight for a 1/2" Browning heavy machine gun. These weapons need the barrel changing on a frequent basis because they warp with heat build up. They had some poor squaddie testing these 'oven gloves'! He would unscrew the barrel and it was very quickly obvious which gloves didn't work  :lol:  HOT, HOT, HOT ......

What on earth do you need a sight for on a Browning Heavy Machine Gun, just point it towards the enemy and pull the trigger.
The big lumps of lead will do the rest.

:lol:  It was for anti-aircraft. I remember sitting out in the horizontal rain for hours firing this thing. The novelty wore off quite quickly! During the proceeds, the Sargeant Major suddenly shouted "Deer!", pushed the guy off the gun and swung it round at this poor Red Deer across the valley. Must have been 1500 yds away. Because of the cross wind, the deer was away before he could get an accurate aim, even with tracers! It seems they take them back for Chef! Not sure about the tracers though.... might taint it a little  :shock: And it isn't exactly lead shot you'ld find in your meal  :lol:
