ZJ Towbar recommendations

I'm looking at a Jeep ZJ, but I need a towbar.

Anybody got any recommendations?

If (later on) I decide to lift it, will I need a new towbar?

Much obliged,

Andrew.

As its a pre-98 vehicle you could order a 2" receiver type towbar from the US. Type approval towbars came in after they stopped selling the ZJ, so your covered there. Will bolt straight on. and the hitch removes with one pin. Saves your shins! Just get a 50mm ball to fit the towhitch, don't order a 2" ball (trust me on this!). Get the electric connector from Halfrauds and splice it yourself.

Otherwise you could cruise the UK towbar makers sites for towbars that fit. I looked in Witter real quick and they only seem to do towballs for later Jeeps that already have a Euro towbar installed.

Or you hit up the UK Jeep junkyards. GT4x4 in Essex and Charltons in Cambs might have something.

And no, you shouldn't need to remove the towbar to do the lift. Just remember the hitch will have to go lower to compensate. Another reason to get a septic towbar. They sell drop hitches just for this reason. I have a 8" drop hitch for my YJ because its so high. But again, remove the drop hitch with one pin and you have the normal depature angle again. Useful when off roading!

Septic towbar? What's one of those?

Cheers for the information on drop hitches - I was wondering how to lower the ball if I lift the car so I can still tow a level trailer.
