what to do?
« on: February 06, 2007, 21:13:51 »
Ok all have a bit of a predicament. I have been offerd one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Caterham-1800-Scotland-Glasgow_W0QQitemZ260078239067QQihZ016QQcategoryZ29750QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (well a super 7) very similar to this for £3000!
the question is do sell the 90 and buy this and a cheapish runaround like a disco or do i just stick with the 90 and forget i was offered this? i am very tempted with this car!please help make up my mind
regards James

is the 90 a 200tdi? if so, just tweak it to stupid levels :D 80mph in a dodgy, noisy, all-over-the-road land rover is just much more fun than a sensibly handled, fast and nippy little automobile ;)

Go and drive it, it'll help you make up your mind.

...but 3 grand seems a bit on the cheap side, it's not going to be great for that money is it?

Your all missing the point!! which would you rather be in when some idiot comes head on into you a 2ton steel/aluminium brick or a fiberglass and scaffolding paper aeroplane or if it comes to that after having the Land rover you end up in a mess in the seven due to it being able to do something land rovers don't do i.e accelarate faster than you know what....you are in the hedge down the ditch and in a mess stick to the land rover your licence says it's better  8)  8)

Must admit always fancied one but couldn't part with the land rover for one...drove a couple and i think it's because your backside is 3" off the floor it's scary quick!!! could see myself either losing my licence or wrapped round a tree somewhere :?  :?

I would guess around the £6K/7K mark but it is just a guess.
How tall are you as they are a cramped car ??
Defenders are holding their money well at the mo
(or they are down here)
I just got £3K for an E plate V8 with toys.

I take it you have driven the (or a) 7?

As much as i like off roading, i would sooner have both off and on road pleasure. For those of you that haven't driven a 7 style car i sujest you beg\borrow or pay for a drive in one, the experiance is intense.

yeah i have driven a seven and it was fantastic. i would inted on getting a disco as an everyday car and still do some offroading, the discos are so much cheaper to buy than 90's i could sell the 90 and get the 7 and a disco
well that was my plan any way

That varies a lot with make and model, a fair few of them will seat 6+ feet tall medium to heavy built drivers surprisingly comfotably.

Do it

You can always get another defender if it turns out to be a bad idea... though running two cars often seems financially like running three.

How are you going to look after a sportscar without a gartage?  With a bit of luck it will snow next week and that will help you make up your mind

You could always build one. That way you get to play and as you are buying it piecemeal you'll have a better chance of keeping both! You want to get your hands on Build Your Own Sportscar... and you're away. Google "Locost" for information on the different designs, donors, engines etc. PM me if you want to know any more!

How old are you? Insurance, place to store, upkeep, loss of licence when you can't say no to the tosser boy racers who try to take you on, and as a consequence loss of livelihood.

£100 Track day whenever the urge gets too much and keep the 90.

Trust me, been there, done it still ironing the T shirts

Im 22. place to store is no problem at all plenty of places to put it undercover here at the boat yard.

and as for loss of licence and livelihood, I would like to think that although I may be a whiper snapper at 22 I have a sensiable enough head on my shoulders not to get caught up in traffic light GP's with little boy racers in there saxos. I have a business and a mortgage and will not risk it for a race with some other tosser! i like my license

well the idea is that I would buy a Discovery as my everyday car. the sale (or potential sale) of the defender should pay for a disco and hopefully leave me with enough to buy the silly sports car!

I would not intend to use the weekend car in the winter (well maybe on a nice sunny dry day)

Argh this still isnt getting any easier, im torn is a disco that much of a step down?? plus i would have nice nippy little number aswell
