Are you sticking with the original gearbox, if so it is a adaptor for the bell housing and you need to change the engine mounts slightly.  If you are fitting with the auto gearbox, you may have problems with the gearbox mounts, transmittion tunnel, propshaft lengths, front axle (uj's wont like permanent 4 wheel drive) will need an oil cooler for the gear box and insurance will be expensive, just off the top of my head.

Did i mention eather way the car's will need regular balancing unless they are in A1 condition.

If you have a landrover back axle you need to carry spare halfshafts because they will break at some point, if Salsbury axle you will be ok (they can take a lot more than a 3.5V8 on carb's can produce).

Why do you want to change a Series into something that it's not? It's a lot of hastle.
You'r better off getting an old Defender or a v8 Range Rover?

I'm thinking of doing this next but it will be a lot of work. I need to take some measurments of a auto but the main problems I see are;

The auto box is very long so to have any rear propshaft the engine will need to be mounted as far forward as poss. I don't want to lose the Series front panel so the radiator will have to be mounted further forward.

The rear axle may have to be moved back as well. Mine is a 88".

Your front axle won't like the full time fwd.

The front prop will probably foul on the bellhousing crossmember.

That's all on top of all the other V8 fitting hassles!

Insurance on modded LR's doesn't seem to be a problem, you just pay more!

You can pick up v8 rangies for ~ £200-500
Coil sprung, wider axles, disc brakes etc. Common mod is to chop off the body work & stick a Series or defender body on the top. :) Very cool.

You could pick a body up for next to nothing. A S3 just went on ebay with no engine/ gearbox for well under £100

Thanks for the support.
Your yellow machine lookis nice too i noticed on an earlier question you'd done a lot of re wiring, got a weekend free?!
Nothing beats the sound of the V8 rumble and if we'd never experimented we would still all be wearing fur, hunting with spears and looking like an extra on a Volvic advert

The easiest way I can think to do it would be to fit a 90 front end (cunningly disguised as a Stage 1 by using a metal grill - no boingy rubbish plastic see?), get totally shot of the 2.25 mounts and the gearbox mounts, fit the V8 right up front a-la a stage 1 (or Mark's yellow SWB) and use a range rover auto box & transfer box. You'll have permenant 4wd (although there is a mod to convert the manual LT230 transfer box to selectable 4wd) If you go that route your props will be the same as Mark's - so copy him!

Many moons ago Ashcrofts produced a kit to fit the Borg Warner 66 auto box from Jags to the series transfer box, that keeps the series front end but finding one may be a hassle.

What about seeing what ACR components have to offer.
2.8 petrol engine based on the 2286, stage 1 or 2 head, tubular exhaust manifold, sports silencer, new kam, k&n, then maybe see Zeus or Chris Perfect components for disc brake conversion.

Loads a fun to be had then......

Well thats my little dream, all i need is a couple of grand spare then.
