200 Tdi - No cooling fan?
« on: February 11, 2007, 11:20:30 »
Currently looking at a 200Tdi engine but it is in a Rangie with no cooling fan. It can’t have an electric fan in front as it still has the aircon rads in it! Do the 200Tdi's run cool so they don't all have fans?

HI

It will run cool in winter but you must have a fan fitted for summer if not the first time you are in traffic or you are playing off road and use the engine but do not travel forward the rad will not receive enough air flow to cool the engine and you will have major problems. Plus the fan sits behind the rad in a 200 tdi and pulls the air through the rad. Also ask if an electric fan was fitted when the engine was in use because if it wasn’t damage could have been caused to the head gasket.

And without the engine fan the intercooler won't be doing much either.

I ran a 200 disco for 3 years with no fan at all, as for the intercooler the force of moving air when your moving will cool the intercooler with no problems, i all so offroadded my 200 with no problems at all,

I would agree that it is better to have a fan, but you can save a few horses by removing it :D

fit a electric fan on the inside of the engine bay that sucks air in, they r the best IMO and is what ive got on my 200 90
however, it gets used once in a blue moon
if not, ive got 3 viscouse units nocking around here all from 200 disco's which is what engine will be in the rangie

I too have run a 200 disco for a couple of years without a fan. Only time it ever got warm was a long low ratio climb, taken a tad too slowly. Otherwise, no problems.
Finaly picked one up at an auto jumble for a fiver.  Engine compartment no filthy again.

With the weatehr we are having it's no surprise so many LR run round with no fan fitted, the Disco was disigned to cope with much hotter climates than ours.

I've ran mine for about 2 years so far with no fan, it heats up much quicker, but only goes to the quarter on the guage.

The only time it gets to the half is when I have the transporter on the back with the trialer loaded, and even then only after long hills.
I HAVE THE BODY OF A GOD

shame its Budda!!
