4wd not working on Vit
« on: February 11, 2007, 13:16:51 »
OK, need some help here.

I dont seem to have 4wd on Vitara, high and low range seem to work OK, but no movement on front wheels when engaged.

Could it be FW hubs that are shot or T-box knackered ??

1}  FW hubs dont click on when changed to lock, should they ??

2}  Will a SJ410 fit without too much modding ??

3}  If 410 box wont fit or is not worth the effort I will need a Vit T-box which I will swap for 410 one.

Thanks

stick it in 4wd & jack a back wheel up,get some1 to drive it slowly with the front hubs set to 4wd n see if a shaft is turning,i bet that the FWH asr stuck inside, fixed a vit on the hill at drumclog that did the same thing, took it off, cleaned the crap out of it,dunted it so the solector dog moved into the 4wd position, packed it full of grease & refitted it,was on our way in 20 min

I have just spoken to the fella I got it off and asked him a few questions.

He didnt even know about the FW hubs till I just told him, says he just put it in 4wd using gear lever and that was it, looks like the FW hubs havent been used before { in the last 5 years or so }.

Hopefully thats all it is then, So I take off front cover on hubs, clean out old grease and re-pack with new........is that why there is no deffinate click when engaging ?? the SJ hubs click when engaged so that hope thats it.

Thanks
