Another sad loss

It has been announced today that Fred Dibnah has lost his fight with cancer.

A sad loss to Britain. He was one of the last bastions of real engineering - a man I'm sure we could all relate to.

The world is slightly more dull with his passing.

Not heard that. Rotten news.

He'll be greatly missed

Poor Sheila, Jack, Roger & the girls.

Still at least he raised the profile of 'things past', someone might take on his mantle

I know he's irreplaceable, but someone like;

Adam Hart-Davies, who is equally passionate about his subjects (see 'Local Heroes' & 'What The ..... Did For Us')

Dan Cruikshank ('House Detectives', 'Buildings Of Britain', 'What The Industrial Revolution Did For Us')

Mark Williams ('Industrial Revalations', he's best known for 'The Fast Show')

Jeremy Clarkson (witness his impassioned plea for Brunel in 'The Greatest Britain' poll)

I've already added my own little memorial

what a rotten 24 hrs 1st Fred Dibnah and then 6 people die in a train smash.

I hate this time of year my thoughts go out to Fred Dibnahs family but also to the family and friends of those 6 people who died and our emergency services who not only worked through the night but those images that will stay with them forever.

There's a new series just done still to be aired so we have that to look forward to. I met Fred at a local steam fayre as well. He had quite a poke around my Series III to see what was diffrent to his.

They're now saying the train thing might have been a suicide. Man drove car onto track and waited. How selfish is that  .

The cortege leaves at 12-noon & is steam propelled

I'm trying to surce ane-mail address forDavid Crausby the local MP to enquire how Fred will be immortalised in the town.

If I find an e-mail, I'll post it here so anyone who wishes can ask th samequestions

Heard the same, that's unbelieveably selfish.  He could have done the same standing on the crossing and not taken those poor souls with him.

suicide is always selfish, taking other people with you is just unthinkable...
