200TDi Common or not?
« on: February 12, 2007, 15:22:56 »
Are 200TDi RRCs with the hard dash common to come across or not?  Do they always demand high prices (2+K) or not?  Are they often low spec vehicles?

Okay.

I should make it clear that the vehicle being solid is far more important than if the paintwork is any good.  I'd ideally want to repaint it myself anyway, and do not want a fancy metallic paint job that loves to get ruined.

Yes it was Jim.  Although only for a short period if I recall correctly.  I'm not fussed if it's a factory fitted engine or not, as long as it has been fitted properly to a manual gearbox.

I didnt think that it was ever factory fitted in a rrc either !! :? The only diesel they fitted in them  was the 2.4 and 2.5 vms.

But theres plenty of 200 tdi conversions around!

Okay.  Price for a solid, but perhaps slightly lacking in the paintwork would be?

Oh, and if they never fitted the TDi, then what are these soft dash factory 300TDis that you see coming up?  :P

Yep, it replaced the 2.5 VM  in Nov 1992 up to March 1994 when they fitted a 300 tdi

Thanks for posting that link, it reminded me of another question.

Is that what a converted 200TDi RRC normally would go for?

VM conversion easy, to 200 tdi.  Pay around £1100- £1800 for reasonable one!

Is it?  I've read the complete opposite about such conversions on another board.

Yup there is such a thing as doing to much reading up on things which leaves you even more confused than when  u started out.

It does not matter what engine was in it befor as long as the Tdi has bben fitted properly
I have had 200 and 300 retro fit RRCs and all have been fine.
Retro's are a lot cheaper that GEN as they are generaly older base models.
My current one is an 87/D with a 300 Tdi on a 5 speed ashcroft box
The 300s are smoother to drive as the turbo comes in sooner but generaly cost more to buy.
A 200 is fine and if fitted well and serviced will return around 28 Mpg if not more.
I have seen loads at the £1200 mark although not recently.
Hope that helps now go and buy one

Many thanks for the info.   The older ones with the selectable transferbox rather than the Borg Warner unit is far more preferable, so it looks like it shall be a retrofitted 200TDi.  :D

They are about as rare as the soft-dash 300TDi though aren't they?
