They stated the imprint of the vents would still exist, but no vents would actually be fitted and operable.

I used to burn out transit engines about three times a year one of the reasons I no longer buy fords

So I can't say they are more reliable

sounds promising... well done ford, ya bunch of prats! the way im looking at it is, transits get hammered.. and usually last it out, but end up a heap of [!Expletive Deleted!] in the process. now a land rover gets hammered, but in a whole new world of hammering in comparison.......

are we gonna find bits of ford transit engine blocking the way on our greenlanes? :?

ps. yes yes i know, the people that buy the new ones are less likely to take them off the tarmac... but it could happen one day!

Don't get confused about the engine going in the new model.  Ford has recently developed a new engine for the Mondeo and Transit.  This is the very same engine that's going in the Defender.

I assume from that you mean that it would be remarkably jolly in a hap hazard fashion, sort of up beat in a chirpy kind of way ?

Since English is for the most part gender-neutral as far as languages go it is rather difficult to percieve what else you could mean ...

On a serious note, can we watch the language guys ?  there is another thread I'm keeping my eyes on with a variety of derogatory phrases and words which should be frowned upon "won't somebody think of the children"

As for the inclusion of the "power buldge", I can't say I'm all that fond of it, but then again as an alternative to cutting a big hole in it, or what was possibly on the plans (i.e. slamming the bonnet till it dented itself enough to fit) it's probably an improvement.

As for engines, well, Ford are under increasing pressure to meet the new emmissions requirements, and I dare say feel something of a moral obligation to shy away from the BMW entines which currently occupy the hole (even if it's simply to one with oil pumps that stay fitted) so I guess they had to do something.

The question of reliability does come up, but, how anyone can criticise ford for producing naff engines when it's going into the vehicle the 2.5TD was for is beyond me.

The vents are a valid concern if that's your sort of thing,  but the aircon models have had a sealed dash, or at least it didn't have any holes in it and the vents were just glued to the top,  they might keep up with that tradition for a while ...

Alternatively, it will finally give you somewhere to stick the belgium national windscreen sticker :)  which, as you might not know is too long for a 90/110 and too straight for a discovery / rangie ...

Why?

When mine arrives it will get properly muddy and used. Perhaps we could meet up and see how long your chassis takes to snap in half?

The Duratorq engine is a Transit / Jag Diesel hybrid, I understand. Much more Transit than Jag, but well noise insulated i understand. With the 6th gear the motorway engine flogging should be a thing of the past too 8)

the transit duratorque engine is very good imho.
my van spends most of its life fully loaded, and after 200K miles it still drives like new, no smoke or owt

we have had four new trannys now, and with a collective (abused) miles of about 650k miles we've only killed one engine. and ford fixed it under warrenty.
