ok i no that the old rangies used to have a 3 speed auto box which was built for the buick engines and this gear box could withstand around 1000bhp instead of the crappy 260bhp that the normal ZF 4hp22 box can with stand
fair enough the box has one less gear so would be crap for the roads but im more intrested in it for off road purposes....
basicaly how hard would this be to change over to this old rangie classic box into my 1994 disco????
and where the hell can i get one from????

I have one sitting in my garage at the moment. It was fitted to a 3.5 V8 so I'm guessing that it's just a case of bolting it on. It did have an oil cooler system with a U shaped radiator in front of the coolant radiator & air con radiator.
I only used it a few times off road but it seemed competent enough and the important bit, 1st gear low box, kept me nice and secure going down hill.
I stripped out that car as I had lost drive. I have no idea what the fault was but various people have suggested all that was neeed was a filter change on the gearbox itself. Others have suggested the torque converter was goosed.
PM me if your interested in taking it off my hands.

I have just had an 1990 engine put into my 82 RRC 3 speed, all fits fine the only issue I have at the moment is that the kick down on the gearbox is via a metal rod and the later ones on the 4 speed are via cable, so I have got to fabricate something to do this job, I am thinking of using the accelerator cable and welding the outer retainer bracket to the chassis, you might have an easier option that I do not know about as im still learning, if so let me know.

Disco-V8, you will need another set of propshafts. The reason for this is because the LT230 is in a different position when compared to the LT230 mated up to the ZF auto.
It's approx £300 for a new front propshaft for the Torqueflite 737.

My ZF 4 speed is hooked up to a 5.0l TVR engine and it goes like a stabbed rat, no issue with the box at all.
Wasn't the same box used by Overfinch in the 5.9 conversion?
The 3 speed on the other hand was ditched because it was, well, agricultural to say the least :?
But as for porps, take yo old ones to propshaft technology and get them shortened.
