e-petition for Volunteers
« on: February 13, 2007, 06:36:47 »
Can you please sign this?

Many thanks.

One of our local coastguard chaps has sent us this:

I have started a petition on the No 10 Downing Street e-petitions
site. Please would you go to this site and give your support to my petition

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/999VOLUNTEERS/

This is the petition:-
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to give incentives to employers to release volunteer emergency service personnel.
Volunteer emergency service personnel, Retained Firemen, Coastguard Rescue Officers and the like, can be called on at any time. Employers are reluctant to release them from work because of the financial penalty they incur when volunteers leave work to assist in an emergency."
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
