There the same less for the light switch. The MOD one can make all the lights stay off and its housed in the centre of the dash.

There are a few out there that where modded for differant uses, nut most are standard :D

M.O.D also have lights underneath that illuminate the (painted white) diffs for night convoy manouvers... So thay can follow each other whithout headlights etc being on. Map light infront of passenger too.

Wolfs have the TDi engine fitted, and have a reinforced chassis.  Not too sure what other changes to the drivetrain there may be on the Wolf compared to the standard MOD 90 and 110.

Other than normal Lighting options were;

To the rear only;
Convoy
Tail
Side and Tail

Convoy also kills the feed to the brake lights and reverse lights... wise really.

cheers guys i was toying with the idea of getting a direct mod 90 or 110 and putting a disco 300 tdi with auto box so having the best engine with auto which i would not mind getting scratched .also they will be well maintained or rough combat life ?!!i was thinking the drive train might be beefed up , salsbury axles ect ??would make a good base kit ripe for modification. ta glyn.

ps. do they have bigger fuel tanks than civvy ones?

The series 3 military vehicles were quite different from the standard series 3s, like my 109 which has a thicker chassis, arctic pack, convoy lighting, twin fuel tanks, raised suspension, sailsbury axle, etc etc.

The 110s were mostly the same other than what has already been mentioned.

If you are looking at buying an ex-MOD 110 (not Wolf) then they are quite similar to the civy vehicle, moreso than the S111's they replaced.

Essentially the vehicles are the same but with no trim and MOD style seats (just swabs really). The electrical system is actually very similar to the civy vehicles but with different light units (waterproof screw-on lense  side/ind lights and 45W QD headlamps), an under-body convoy light and a central NATO light switch. The NATO switch can easily be removed however and the civy item plugged into the loom, a couple more connections have to be made and within an hour you have reverted back to standard civy operation. If the vehicle was an FFR then there was an entirely separate 24V generator & radio batteries, this and all the redundant cables (including coax cables) can be removed and junked (took me a couple of hours to do mine). There should be a map-reading light on the dash and the speedo will probably be in KPH (easily replaced with a MPH unit). Depending on use (and moreso with FFR hardtops) there may have been some local modifications to the rear of the vehicle, one of these may be a wooden screen above the centre bulkhead with a sliding panel for communication.The rear cross-member will have bumperetts, a 12-pin trailer socket and a NATO hitch fitted, once again it doesn't take long to replace the socket with a 7-pin one. The axles are the same as the civy vehicle (Rover front & Salisbury rear) but the front axle should have a 4-pinion diff & 24-spline halfshafts fitted as standard, springs will be HD and quite hard. It is quite possible a 110 will have simple jerrycan holders fitted in-front of the rear wheels however these are not the sealed units of later vehicles. The engine will be the reliable & understressed 2.5NA D with standard gearing. The front bumper may have a central towing pin but these were not always fitted, it should also have a full set of JATE rings.

I am sure I have missed a couple of points but I can't think of any more at the moment.

You've pretty much covered it there -
They usually have a bonnet mounted spare, especially if soft top. Soft tops have a roll hoop fitted.  Steering is not usually power assisted.
Sliding side windows, not wind up.  No carpet!

Fuel tanks are the same as civvy, unless older s111 with under seat tanks.

Well maintained?? depends - they are thrashed silly, but certainly when I picked mine up from the MOD (it looked a total wreck and was hanging from the forks of a JCB) it was mint underneath.  Totally rust free chassis, recon engine, new brake servo and master cylinders, new brake lines, ball joints etc etc, but on the down side the cogs were nearly falling out of the transfer box.  When they do get fixed though, they seem to be fixed well.

I've been well impressed with mine - simple, fun and very capable off road.

cheers all, good stuff the ffr with all the batteries ect sounds good especially if you can fit an inverter onto it and have power for things in the back!
they seem like a good starter kit so to speak rather than getting an old farmers rot box for a small fortune then spending another small fortune on getting it road worthy never mind any improvements.think i might have a look around if i sell my disco not sure whether to go for 110 or 90 yet might go for a soft top 90 for summer i have already got roof and sides so could change in the winter.thanks every one glyn.
