Elise parts do all sorts of nice k series bits www.eliseparts.com you dont pay a premiumfor the "lotus" side as they are just good up rated aftermarket bits.  I would also consider movingthe thermostat as thats the real cause of the HGF (later freelander had this moved) and you neeed a specific freelander kit as all k series instalations (rovers, elises, mg's, freelanders) have different plumbing.

And you definitley neednewbolts.

thanks reply guys

ye know that new bolts must be used

it was more the gasket that was being a [!Expletive Deleted!] to get hold off not in stock (due to high demand as everyone wants it to sort theres).

am a bit dubious to buy gasket of fleasmebay

can you confirm that the gasket on the elise pages is identical please (follow link)

That is the older style gasket with the orange elastomer sealing on it ..... had that replaced on mine after 45k miles !  There is now a two part head gasket and a new bottom rail as well as new head bolts ........ just had that one fitted after 115k !

The eliseparts one is uprated (as per comments) and the stuff they sell is very highly regarded by the elise (rover k series) community including me.  I would not judge it based on the colour of the seal, however I appreciate your comments are besed on experiance and I have not needed a HGF so can not comment 100% about this item.

Hi carbore long time no speak, totally agree a good source of parts.... the "latest" fix for the gasket problem is two gaskets not a single one, this is the Payen version..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/rover-k-series-modified-head-gasket-multi-layer-mls_W0QQitemZ160082832638QQihZ006QQcategoryZ10414QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I think this should take you to a picture of it ..... fingers crossed this should last a  bit longer !!!

ps I never did get to the bottom of my misfire ... but hey thats another thread ... ](*,)

Sounds ok price wise,

They will have had to change the oild and drain the coolant to remove the swapped fluids. Then they have put on a cam belt and set the cam timing, possibly new spark plugs, in addition to the head swap.

I wouldnt be to upseat with that bill for a k series.

The guy that did mine charged £350, came to the house too . .  genuine parts and fluids ....... but ...
    1. The water had gone into the oil not the other way round, so no need  to flush the cooling system or new spark plugs.....
    2. The engine did not overheat so no need to skim the head.
    3. Cam belt changed recently so no need for new one.
All said and done, I'm very pleased with the work done and 5k miles on still running sweet ....
