ok since my motor is in bits (see gasket thread) iv started to think more on

some alterations :shock:  :D

ok tyres will need replacing for looming MOT

so bigger always better

its on 215/65/16 the now  :(

what size can i go on this rim perhaps 225/75/16 or 215/75/16 would this

fit with no other mods ermm tight me thinks perhaps a little more width

and less wall hieght say 225/70/16 or maybe im dreaming and have to

settle for 215/70/16 what you boffins recon as this is only mod im going to

afford before MOT so need to fit with no messing.

also i was wonting BFG AT now gonig to be to dear so cheap  but

good tyre recomendations please help with much thanks to all.

well what about permanant 4 wheel drive  :shock:  that viscous coupling

am i right is basicly an all four wheel switch if you like thought how about

replacing it with say an air locker type thing that when turned on would

engage the shafts as one creating permanant 4wheel drive,,, turn of back

to front wheel 2drive what you more mechanical boys think would this work

big plans for this but will need to get some funds put together anyway i

think this post big anuff for now

All your tyre sizes mods etc are well covered here http://mad-freelanders.org.uk/ I imagine you are looking at off roading you FL by the mods you mention and to get max ground clearance without lift 205/80/r16 will fit and give additional 1" over what your running now.

Personally I would replace plastic sump guard for ally one (protects and stiffens chassis reducing body roll when lifted) first then lift then decide on tyres...If you make tyres your first choice you will regret it when you do lift.

Colways are suposed to be a decent cheap tyre, personally I have a set of avon 205/80/r16 on std allys which will use for everyday use and summer off roading and a set of Diamond backs 215/80/r15 for winter use.

Both bought cheaply from eblag and both sets with spare set of wheels cost less than 2 BFG...

as you also menchend 'that i should lift it. My plan was to tyre and lift it

together then bl**dy gasket whent so thats taken most my bugget up  :(  

and to pass MOT im defo going to need the tyres

the colways do look good thats what my father in law runs on his suzuki gv

says there good but always good to talk to other people experince the

avon look good if not a touch tame looking at the tread they manage on

mud plenty that up here in scotland  :D

meant to ask if i fit tyres larger what effect will be to speedo reading +performance thanks.

for a decent set of tyres, whicha arent remoulds and still MUCH cheaper than the Bf Goodrichs I can recomend the General Grabber AT2s  :D

Avon good all round tyre...probably better with an MT if youve plenty of it...Diamond backs great in mud but very noisy on road...Speedo stuff see http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html  big rad but tyre calculators down near the bottom

so at 205/80/16 speedo is reading 70 actual speed 75 so make sure slow

down extra at cameras  


is it possible to get speedo adjusted to read correctly?

Try top left of car bible page for other bibles great info on all....You can get speedo corrected but as anything it will cost....personally used SWAG method at first then had it had it adjusted.... :D

Piccy of mine with diamond backs...2" lift....30mm spacers.....5x7 Oz racing wheels....sliderz....fully protected underneath :D

Ps Diamond back 215/80/r15 have profile more like 90-95 and will not fit without lift and spacers

30mm spacers....but you should get most 215/80/r15 on without ...

OK engine wise.

A remote theromsat to remove the root cause of K series destruction (caused by stresses when the stat opens and floods cold water into a hot engine, see my k series threads). I belive that Landrover do a version of this that is STD on later freebies to avoid lots of warrenty issues.  Any general K series ones may not have the correct hose shapes so oly go for one that says its for a freebie (unless someone can tell you it works)

An oil cooler, mine cools the oil of the water cooling system, this means coolant and oil are kept in sync, again avoiding stresses cause by temp difference. Again be careful to make sure fits.

How about a performence filter or induction kit, I dont know if the airbox is differnt on the freelander, but an induction kit wil fit directly on the throttle budy and could help youroute the air intake to somewhere higher up (wading)?.

Larger and alloy  throttle body as the K series palstic one one is prone to sticking.

If you have a chane then a 135bhp head will be the best compromise for torque and power. Most of the performnce K series (mine 160bhp and 7500rpm) are not torquey enough.

Lightend flywheel. Expinsive but helps revs/power but makes car easier to stall, but then again im not sure if the effecdts are desirable in a 4x4 when its all supposed to be low down power and gentle on the throttle/heavy car.

If you only do one thing, MODIFY THE THERMOSTAT!
