R380 probs, any ideas
« on: February 19, 2007, 22:29:32 »
Started driving to donno for the show on sat, got to bristol, crusing along at 70 and the gearbox decideds to let fly....

Started vibrating like hell, kindof grindy noise in all gears except fourth.....

Managed to drive all the way home in fourth... It makes the same noise but quieter at standsill, except when i engage the clutch it goes away ???

Any ideas ??

lol.

two year ago i was just past Jcn 22 on the M5 and i had a mainshaft snap on a TDI 90 i was driving and whilst towing a friends CCV trialer back too from the baskerville challenge.

No rough noise nothing. Just going up the hill i accelerated from 50 to 60 to keep the turbo spinning in 4th. and then the Revs just went up and no drive what so ever.

Ended up being recoverd home by the RAC, and was told a week later that the box had had it.

Driving up it was fine, the only hint that there was a trouble was that 2nd was a PITA to get into and required double declutching to get into. But i was reassured by the owner that it has done that for the past thousand miles.    i was told also to pull away in 2nd. mmmm but an all in weight of 3.5 tonne not even 140 BHP was gonna move it up hill. so had to use first occasionly.
