Tyres - again!
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:52:51 »
I'm used to running 7.50 x 16s on my Land Rovers, I want to get some new tyres at some point for the 110s but want radials for obvious reasons.

Whats the equv size to 7.50s and what would be the same but perhaps a little wider?

Thanks

You'll be looking for a 235/85 x 16. These'll be a gnats taller than the 7.50x16.

If you want to go wider still, then the 265/75x16 will be the next nearest  diameter to the 7.50, although it is a slightly smaller diameter (but will offer that increase in width over the 235).

I don't know what rims you're running, but it could be worth a quick troll around the various tyre manufacturers site to try and find out the minimum rim width they'd recommend for thier tyres - it can vary between manufacturers.

Thanks Eeyore - I'd be running them on Wolf Rims.

i think you could fit some 255/85/16's which would be slightly wider than the 235(well obciously i suppose  ) but a little taller thus increasing your gearing so it would cruise better, look a little better on the wider tyres and i dont think you will have any clearence issues aslong as your not going seriously off road.
if you you can make it i can break it.

Thanks Muddy - I will be putting it through it's paces off road so wouldnt want anything that will catch, although a 1" lift would probably fix that anyway.

To be honest, the 235s on Wolfs (I run BFG MTs in this combination) shouldn't give you too much trouble in most situations.

With the Wolf rim being a 7" rim (IIRC) it'll be worth checking to see if the tyre manufacturer recommends the 265 (and the 255 for that matter) on that rim width). Some will, some won't.

The 255/85 mentioend above, is a fairly tall tyre, standing another 1.75" (approx) taller than the 235/85. Not everyone does a 255/85, but they aren't a lot more than the 235 if you decide it's the way forward.

Used to run 255/85x16 BFG MTs on my 90 ...... with a 1.5" lift (BM blue springs) .... was well cool. Could've done with cones on the back, but used jubilee clips to hold the top of the springs in place.
