Tonight
BBC1 @20:30

Looks a bit close to home for me

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/programmes/panorama/default.stm

Apparantly it includes a  sequence where it took 4 hours to subdue a patient, utilising, staff,  NHS Security & the 'Riot Squad'!?

Stuff that, give us Tasers!!!

I wish this project would just hurry up and finish!

Its a hard one to deal with, cos everyone wants that kind of violence to stop, but (this is my own opinion) they shouldnt be able to refuse treatment to anyone.  Saying that they should be able to if there is a suitable alternative, but when there isnt everyone has a right to treatment, just as the staff have a right to not be abused by patients, its a very difficult one.

Abuse healthcare staff, and you don't get healthcare (whether you paid for it or not).  That's how it should be in my opinion.

Totally agree with what I have seen about this programe so far. Why should any Health professional have to put up with it.
There was a situation around here the other weekend when the Ambulance was called to a local pub where a man was complaining of severe chest/upper arm pain and shortness of breathe (classic cardiac signs)
Ambulance crew arrived and he told them to F*** Off, so they did.
Told the landlord to call them back if he finally collapsed.

We even had the local St John spat at last year at Llanidloes Fancy Dress because they asked a group of youths to clear out of the way when they were dealing with a collapsed girl.

It is very pleasing to know that you can now be prosectuted for obstructing ANY emergency worker!

I don't mean in terms of the vicinity to where I work, just the subject matter.

The funny thing is GPs can refuse to treat, but we don't have that option.
(well, we have, but I've only seen it used once since it was introduced. I don't even think the scrote that broke my nose got barred :? )

There was an instance a few weeks ago where a patient attended who'd been barred from his GP (& all other local surgeries) for threatening the staff.
We had to treat him.
Fair enough he was (apparantly) co-operative & placid, but we still had 2 Police officers waiting outside in case he 'kicked off', who had been informed on his arrival - his name would have flagged up an on-screen warning to the receptionist

Plus all male staff in the department were also within earshot for an initial response to any threats.

It has happened (so I understand), a person has assaulted a member of staff, then being 'hurt' during their arrest (how sad!, my heart bleeds)
Upon their return for treatment, any pain-killers requested will take a l-o-o-o-n-g time to materialise.

Well!
Whilst I've seen the fights, puches, kicks, etc..... I've never even heard about anything like that siege in the side-room.
That was ludicrous, the (riot) Police ought to have gone in before that, if only for the sake of the other patients on the ward.
