Does anyone think there is a better manual for an amateur mechanic than the Haynes books for a Defender (post 2000)?

There are 3 Haynes manuals on Defenders. Is "You & Your Land Rover Ninety, One Ten & Defender" any good?

Other than LR workshop manuals, is there an other option?  :oops:  :D

Yes- the proper workshop manual!

The Haynes books can be a good start, but having the workshop manual to hand I've always found a bonus (when I've had access to it). They were about 50 squid at one point, but are now available on CD for significantly less cost (if you've the right vehicle!)

Out of the Haynes books themselves, the LR 90, 110 and Def book is most usefull, but less of a coffee table read! Again though, it depends if your year of vehicle is featured, so it's worth checking!

I'm conscious of the year of manufacture issue, but was thinking that they would be good background learning. I'll try to get a workshop manual for it when it's available if it doesn't cost the earth  :roll:

If its the same basis as Range rover version it is a very interesting read.  As a manual it is no good at all, more a vehicle biography

What's your point? I have not sought to reproduce the books, have I? I have merely shown the covers. (I have in fact removed then in case that's why you posted your cryptic reply)

If you're talking about the workshop manuals - then nobody on here has suggested they are obtained dishonestly.

Clarify please.

The original link in the thread pointed to a host for cracked copies of the workshop manuals.

The Club policy is that we don't support the advertising of illegal software as highlighted in the link in the post.

[Range Rover Blues]

The haynes manual for Range Rover is pretty good, it has all sorts of usefull stuff about EFi and that, but then nothing on the anti -roll bars :? it hasn't been iupdated in 15 years and all the stuff you want is in the suppliment anyway.

The Disco one is useless, I borrowed 1 for something and I might as well have guessed at it.  I know why it's called the book of confusion now.
