Jimny winch
« on: February 27, 2007, 19:36:24 »
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can help a new member of Mud Club with a question re. fitting a winch to a Jimny - the thing is, I want to fit a winch but I don't want a winch bumper.  I want to keep the original bumper and fit the winch between the chassis rails and use the opening in the original bumper to lead the winch cable out through.  Is this possible?  Has anyone done this?  If so, do you happen to have any pics of the layout etc you could let me see on here?  Do the electrics need to be modified in any way - ie do I need another battery or just go with the original Jimny battery?  To let you understand, I don't do "hard core" offroading, so the winch would only need to be used very occasionally when I get stuck in a muddy field!  All info gratefully received!  Thanks - Mick

It should be possible with a bit of imagination. You will need to mount another cross member between the two chassis rails. This is how I mounted mine, behind my KAP 'Rock Bumper' but the same mod should work behind the standard bumper. The rad has to come out to get the winch in but theres enough room for my GEW 9000lb winch.

Thanks Glaggs, you've confirmed what I thought would be possible.  I will hopefully have the same setup as yours, only mine will keep the original bumper.  Thanks again Mick
