Windscreen wipers.

Seems obvious I know but my Rover 620 decided today that it wasnt going to play anymore with cleaning my windscreen.

Pootling along a dual carriage way and I luckily slowed down to 55mph and into the slow lane to turn left at a roundabout ahead to turn onto a motorway. Just as they stopped there was an empty layby I dived into!!! If it had been 5 minutes before or after I would have probably been over taking a lorry and I hate to think what would have happened then as in the few seconds they werent working I couldnt see anything.

RAC got me back on the road with 45minutes of me calling them out though.

we had to recover a volvo 400 miles cos the wipers packed up and couldn't get them going again all paid for by the AA

I went to my posh car recyclers today to get another linkage.

He wasnt sure if he had one so gave me a hi vis and off I wondered and found a rover in better nic than mine. How does that work then?? :lol: any way it had the linkage I needed and the car was on the floor and not on a shelf 7 cars high!

I went back to get a quote. 1 bit of tiny metal. £25  :shock:  I said they were taking the mic werent they and he said nope.  He said it is due to labour getting the car down and removing the part. I told the chap the car was on the floor and I could get it off within 10mins so he said he would reduce it down to £15 for me. Bit better but stil expensive.

After I took it off and also saved the plastic clips for the plastic trim under the winscreen as RAC windscreen destroyed all mine I went back and he said oh THAT bit. a tenner!! :D Not bad really and I got to practise on a car I didnt care about.

I was half tempted to get 1 of the front wheel arches as the one I found wasnt rusty and mine is but I cant be bothered to take 2 off and put 1 on in the rain :lol:

Just got to fit the part onto my rover now! At least I got the flat tyre on the disco sorted today. rusty / muddy rims leaking air out!!!

Always the same scrap yards, they have you by the goolies because they know how much a main stealer would charge (or not in the case of Rover!!) and everyone who goes to a scrap yard get p£$*ed off because they probably got paid to take the car away!!  My tip, get a jacket with big pockets and get your moneys worth (not that I condone stealing in any way shape or form officer)

Funny you should say that!!! Done it in the past. Found a tool or 2 in a boot and walked out saying I took it in there to undo summit!!!

I was quiet tempted to take the whole car away tbh. The only thing wrong with it from what I could se was no front door windows. drivers side gone and passenger side smashed. still had shopping in the back seats as well! It was in lovely nic.

has anyone used RAIN X before i used to use it found it brilliant at speed didn't need wipers 8)  8)

always used it inside to try and stop it steaming / condensating up. doesnt work though.

I fitted a new drivers side wiper blade on Sat ready for a longish run on rain forcasted Sun. On the way home in heavy rain, a couple of miles after I had been thinking how good new blades are the bloody thing fell off!!! When I fitted it I thought it did not click into place as securely as the one I took of. Had to drive forty miles in heavy rain with no wipers, not good, but also not a bad as I thought it would be.
