This is of more interest to some and not others not even sure if it will do any good but i voted yes anyway.....

...THIS IS A CAUSE WELL WORTH SUPPORTING; PLEASE VOTE IT TAKES ONLY ONE PUSH OF A BUTTON FOR A WHOLE DAY OFF WORK!!

We have a real chance to make April 23rd, our nations day a bank holiday. If you are in agreement then please vote and also please send this to as many people as possible as it's all about numbers.

There is a chance the public can make St Georges Day a public holiday (After this year) Click on the link below to vote, the site needs at least 500,000 votes for the government to take it seriously and give us another holiday, and I know you are up for that!

The question which hasn't been asked is how many people are voting "yes" because they want a day off and not because of some form of national pride?

I dare say if you declared national talk like a pirate day to be a bank holiday you'd get just as many votes :?

Voted Yes, if for no other reason than to get the St George's flag back from the hands of the Far Right/BNP and hooligan element.

I think the European average number of national holidays is 11. We have 8. Even the Aussies have Big Liz Windsor's birthday as a national holiday

In Europe we work more hours per week than any other nation. So the argument that we will lose working hours compared to our neighbours is only relative.

I/We deserve the rest, or we'll flake out  :D

I have already posted about this on another site.....here's the gist :

<cough>

St. George ..... you might want to look into his nationality

90% of "english" people know when St. Davids day is, St. Patricks too...but they have to look up St. Georges. The day it's taken seriously is the day I'll let my employees have a free day.

"St George was born in the 3rd Century, in what is now Turkey and he roamed around the Middle East. It seems he never set foot in England. It was in the year 1415 AD that St. George became the Patron Saint of England when English Soldiers under Henry V won the battle of Agincourt against the French. The day is not widely celebrated in England. Only 18% of the English people know the date of St George's day, according to a survey. He is also the patron saint of Moscow."

Find a date in the summer :-) That would get my vote lol

Turn up in Birmingham on Paddy's day and most of the city centre is closed off for a massive party and parade. What happens on George's day  :?  oh yeah, the council raises a flag (but that'll stop soon knowing them)

I'm not bothered about a public holiday, I just think that more should be done
by the government  to promote & celebrate St George's Day.

I'm quite the opposite.

I hate the religious overtones of celebrating a saint as a national patron. I bet none of those 90% of English who didn't know when St George's Day is don't go to church. Then why have a day for what is in fact less than 10%. Who the *#@$ is St George? I didn't vote for him. Dragons don't exist anyway.

I am however all for another national holiday. So perhaps i should promote a Bank Holiday to mark Great Britain Day or Democracy Day.
