Alternator knocking Steering box!!!
« on: March 12, 2007, 17:50:33 »
Right i have a 2.8 isuzu lump running isuzu alternator

and now and again while off roading mainly i can hear the blades hitting the steering box.

i have just put a new belt on but no difference.

anyone got any ideas?

use a smaller belt would pull back towards the engine but just wondering if anyone else got these issues?

Engine mounts, I had to swap them on the LSE as the fan was hitting the bottom of the shroud.  Alternatively put a spacer under the RHS engine mount and RHS gearbox mount.

the mount does seem to be pulling forward a bit i just put that down to the conversion.....

whats the best way to solve it? new rubbers on the mount?

At £4 a peice or whatever I would, they shouldn't be deforming noticeably but perhaps the conversion is a heavy engine.  Perhaps they stretched the rubber a bit.

If its a metalastic type,I have known the rubber to seperate from the steel backing, all looks well on a visual but when the going gets tuff the engine starts pogoing around like a jumping bean

yeah sounds about right.

even though looking at it the engine is sitting forward 0.5 inch on the mount so the alternator is probably sitting more like 1 inch further forward than it should be.

There are 4 engine mounts, 2 hold the gearbox so I'd guess that whoever dis the conversion misscalculated the position of the front 2 mounts, hence thay are distorted.
