Green Laning Prep

I am off laning next Sunday (25th) for the first time since putting the big tyres and lift on, I haven't much time between now and then to play around with the car, I tried it with the front wheel on an embankment the other night and the back tyre caught a little on the flange piece on the rear quarter/wing, easy fix with a saw!!  I was surprised too see that the rear compressed easily and the wheel tucked neatly in the arches mainly clearing but the front where nowhere near!!  Which of the following would you recommend doing DEFINATLEY before going laning and which do I leave until I have more time....

1. Putting 2" extentions on my anti roll bars

2. Fiting anti fall off plates to the top of my rear springs

3. Extending my bumpstops (don't know if I need to yet??)

4. Wire up the CB......Actually I WILL do this

5. Do away with copper pipe infill and fit heater matrix

What do we think???

id do the CB, it make those green laneing a lot more intresting.

CB ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. i find these an essential bit of kit.
really good to have someone on the end of the line, useful too. and you dont miss out on what the others are saying. a lot more enjoyable

Leave the springs for now, is it standard or lifted?

Leave bumpstops alone

If you're worried about the spring popping out, a quick temp fix is a couple of jubilee clips around the top of the spring and it's mounting....

Unless they're quite serious lanes, you won't get near full articulation anyway.....

If you haven't already, get a good set of maps for the are you're going to, check legality of the routes, and ideally if it's pretty much your first time out, go with at least one other vehicle......

Thanks Ron, don't worry about the laning, I will be going with my GLASS group, don't know where yet like, decided on Tuesday nights meeting :D  Been laning a lot so not a novice I just haven't done it with the suspension lift on

The rear will always get more travel as it's three link and the front isn't. You can get three link for the front but it's a lot of work and only really necessary if you want to go to extremes, enjoy your laning!

On a standard car the blades on the side of the chassis mount were to guide a dislocated spring back into place, they don't work so well on a lifted car.

That said I have a pair of location cones and they are still in a box waiting to go on.

With the ARB still fitted I have never popped on out.

Thanks for that Range Rover Blues, saves me a job!!  I went laning yesterday just round some local lanes, it seems so much better behaved off road with the lift on, you see a big rut tense up for it and it seems to glide over them, the bigger tyres will help though.  I might not get round to doing the ARB spacers (done the CB though :D ), what detriment will this have, i presume it will just restrict travel??

No, if yo have a lift and get cross-axled than the ARB will 'flip' over and the end then hits the bottom spring seat.  The car will then ride on the slant.  Once both ends are flipped it then restricts travel quite a bit IIRC.

Yolu could undo bothe ends and turn the ARB backwards and tie-wrap it to the chassis for now.  If you can get it undone.

My truck runs without arb's...... no problems that way, less to go wrong!

Which is great for off-roading but as I carry 2 big dogs, tow a lot and have a heavy LPG tank in the boot, oh and heavy boots myself I like it to handle well on the road.

Like most things it's a compramise.

Range Rover Blues, you certainly know your stuff, just crossed axled it on a big earthy mound and yes it did flip the ARB bit over and yes it now slants :oops: Glad I found out before going laning on Sunday (should have just taken your advice!!)  I will definatley do it tomorrow before sundays expedition.  As for the dislocating spring it was a good 2 1/2" clear of the seat, took a good boot whilst I reversed it back down to get it to go back (thanks for that LP32!!).  so will also invest in some jubilee clips for now (I knew I should have left the shocks standard instead of +2" (I was certain the springs would be 2" longer), you live and learn anyway :roll:

Been there, done that.

I fancy some X-Springs but I'm working on reliable disconnects for the ARB first.
